Definitely more screen real estate than the T-Mobile MyTouch (which is nice) and the icons have definitely been upgraded since Android 1.5 – notice Visual VM.
I own a PC, a MacBook, an iPhone and recently a MyTouch. I have to admit that Apple products are definitely better in the asthetics category – the just plain LOOK better. I’ll also say that the iPhone OS is much more intuitive than Android. Just some initial observations: iPhone app icons provide information (e.g. # new msgs, etc.) and just plain look better; ‘Droid menus aren’t as intuitive; ‘Droid apps I’ve compared don’t provide as much functionality (e.g. Facebook); lack of iTunes (OK, so some will boo & hiss to this, but hundreds of thousands of Windows users still have iPods and use iTunes on their PCs).
I’m a tech guy and although I must admit I like my MacBook and Snow Leopard OS, I would love to see someone release an obvious, no questions necessary reason to drop the iPhone for something else (even though I’m in a damn AT&T contract). The Droid may be in the neighborhood, but it doesn’t seem to be quite there just yet.
The Visual Voice Mail is not new to Verizon Phones. I have an LG Env Touch with this feature. What i hope people realized before switching to Verizon is that, although they are a great carrier, they nickel and dime you for every feature. The visual voice mail is like 5 buck extra a month, navigation is like 10 extra a month. The apps usually cost a minimum of 8 bucks each. This is where Verizon will make this, or any future phone fail. You can’t beat the free or even .99 cent useless apps from the iphone. You can’t really preview your apps before buying. You have to chunk down your $10 and hope you like it. I’m not trying to sound like a cheap skate, but if i’m gonna buy an app for $10 bucks, it better be worth it. I guess we’ll all find out in a few days…..
@Manny you mention that Verizon will nickel and dime you on apps, but this phone is open to all android apps currently on the market. Verizon may make an app or two but you can still find plenty of free ones or cheap ones on the android marketplace. Also with Verizon’s new plans you do not need to be nickeled and dimed.
this phone only runs one verizon wireless app visual voicemail and by the way if you buy a android market app and you dont like if you remove from phone within 24 hours you will be refunded your money back to your credit card automatically…verizon wireless has not locked this phone down….
MLM doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Most iPhone apps are $2 or less. I wonder if MLM even has a smartphone or he just incorrectly repeats what he hears.

Yup…those motorola and verizon logos definitely junk it up. Most likely NOT google’s idea. It certainly detracts from the appearance.

What sucks, is that it feels like the recessed “chin” is there for the sole purpose of displaying the Verizon logo.
