BlackBerry 9000: Internal Spec Sheet Answers Your Questions
Enough with the speculation, the rumors, the spokespersons commenting on our blogging abilities — we’re setting it all straight right here with this internal RIM doc we just got a hold of. You might be thinking that cover page above is the best part — it is pretty sexy isn’t it — well, it’s not. We’ve got the rundown on everything from language support, to themes, to the redone media appplications. We’re talking the browser, the setup wizard, Wi-Fi, streaming video, and anything else you could want. The latest release date we’re hearing is actually July now (go figure), and that RIM is working on those power problems with the quickness. As we’ve been told, the newer builds are definitely better but not quite there yet. We’ve got a good idea of when it’s going to be announced, but we’ll keep that one to ourselves for now.

Those theme’s look solid as ever. I hope that it runs as great as it looks.
This phone really looks to be something solid for RIM and is evolving into something great.
That browser looks interesting as well.

You’re the man.
This may be a silly question: Is RIM still planning to include GPS?

Looks great but i hope they don’t mess up the keypad. The pictures looked more like the 8800 keypad which was a disaster.

Hmmmmmm. As a Verizon user I am contemplating a jump from the 8830 to the 8330. This looks more interesting but of course will Verizon cripple WiFi and will it be April of 2009 before it makes it to them….

Great info, I wonder how long it will be until that Fortune writer updates their story. Is there any further info about the memory configuration?

Wow, I really cannot wait for this to come out.
WiFi and all those things - looks like such a solid device! Hopefully TMobile gets it and supports to the 3G network.

I may have missed this on there, but is there a mention of the camera quality at all?
The 8300’s cam is decent, but 2mp cams are becoming outdated on mobile’s, so i’d love some 3.2mp or above with AF.

I like the third theme option, somewhat similar to the Windows Mobile today screen. But I have a Tilt (and need windows mobile for my Rhapsody), so no 9000 for me.

Perhaps it’s time to consider a 2010 short of RIMM’s stock. This might seem great to existing BlackBerry users, which I am a former, but I don’t think this is going to compete well with the iPhone over the long haul. And RIMM will also have to battle the Google Android. This all looks like mere window dressing on an interface which is quickly showing its age.
Seriously, I am not trying to troll or anything. I just think we are evolving, and typically what happens when we do evolve is that the older guy that sticks to his older, out-dated technology becomes extinct.
I don’t see this competing with the polish of the next generation of software we’re about to see on other platforms.
Best,
Alex Alexzander

Looks great, now all we VZW people have to do is wait until July of 2010 and we can have one for our very own…How I do love reading about the grass on the other side…Keep it up BGR, and get us some solids on the VWZ release for the Old / New Curve 8330 when you get a chance…

This is why I keep my faith so solidly for RIM and why I will forever remain a BlackBerry user. This looks very impressive and I want to hold on in my hand. To be honest, this is just enough reason to get me off of T-Mobile and onto AT&T. (I wouldn’t mind being financially raped by AT&T every month just to hold one of these beauties!)
I love the new themes and the new icons. However, I still have issues with how big the “banner” area is compared to the rest of the screen, though. I’m one of those “minimalist” people — I like my banner being only one or two small lines at most, instead of 1/4 of the screen real estate.
And the Browser looks fantastic! I’m really excited about that. I wonder how fast it renders, though, regardless of what speed the network is operating at. If I remember correctly, there were some speed issues when using the (current) Browser over WiFi where the browser couldn’t render the page fast enough.
3G … Eh. I’ll probably have it off all the time to conserve battery power. I live in Texas, and most of our big cities are covered well enough by free WiFi.
Camera … Eh. I’ll have to check if I can have one in Iraq on base. (I hope they make a model without a camera for those of us in security-sensitive jobs.)

It looks like I might not be going to iPhone 2.0 when my VZW contract is up in August. These shots look very promising.

I noted in the theme preview the phrase “Blackberry Precision”. Is this the name for the 9000 series devices or just the name of the new OS or theme layout? Kind of a neat name if it is what they will call the device.

I tried an N95 for couple of days but went back to the Curve because I still have hope in RIM to come out with something very spectacular and I can’t go back to the three-letters-per-key keyboard after using the Blackberry keyboard.
I hope RIM keeps all the features mentioned here on every model of the phone to compete with the iPhone 2.0; also taking in consideration the release of their next Blackberry because I have considered buying the iPhone 2 when it comes out - I can’t wait much longer to have a new phone.
