AT&T Palm Centro unboxing!

We’re not really sure where to begin…It’s the Palm Centro on AT&T. You know the Centro, right? Outdated OS, tiny, miniscule puke-lime-green keyboard, EDGE, camera, and phone. We didn’t get a solid feel for pricing when it launches on February 19th, but we’ve heard $99 and $149 for a 2-year agreement. We’d wager it being $99 (how could it be more than Sprint’s?). If you want more Garnet madness, we suggest you don your favorite sunglasses and grab one of those airline-style puke bags. You’re going to need it!

@Kevin
Palm put it out, AT&T didn’t. Palm OS can’t multi-task so they can’t make it UMTS.

Palm sucks. I had Palm for years from the the Treo 650 to the Treo 700. Overall great hardware but the software was very unreliable. God Bless to Palm in the near future.

Imagine that this is all part of an elaborate scheme to find out who BG is by AT&T? That would be pretty crazy. I hope the gallery’s not 404ing because AT&T contacted you after posting this weird green phone!
; )
Hehe, anyway… yeah that’s a damn weird color for them to go with…

lol wut. i have the centro on sprint… it’s not terrible. but i am jealous of my dad’s Q9. So ya its pretty bad. The only upside to all of this is I get to play NES on my phone and web browsing is nice and quick.
and mine isn’t horrendous and weird looking, like this is.

I think its ridiculous that you guys are saying this thing looks ugly. Most of you are just saying this because other people are saying it. While I agree that the green sucks, the overall appearance of the phone looks nice. I’ve owned a 700p and a 680 and I will be getting this one too. You guys really need to lay off Palm. The device isn’t nearly as bad as people are whining about.

Who’s idea was it to take a cool little smartphone and morph it into this monstrosity? Clearly somebody in the design department doesn’t like AT&T customers.
BTW, I used to drink Slimer green Hi-C too!

My guess, which no one has addressed, is that the the color choice of green is for contrast. On the other Centros, the dialpad keys are white while the other qwerty keys are color keyed to the phone color, either black, red or pink. Obviously, white on white wouldnt work great for that. As for green as the choice…whatever.

I actually love this colour configuration!! Its really cute & nice to see Palm continuing with the fashion line that started with the red & Pink Centros. Not EVERYBODY wants an ugly black phone guys. Some of us do like different colours & styles.

Sorry its just ugly. White is fine, but ECTO gren keys? Why not black keys? Red, blue? I dont think the phone is that bad, I looked at one of the Sprint versions and thought that maybe this phone will help Palm a little in sales. Lets face it, its a chick phone! My gf might like it to replace her Pearl! ha

Very similar specs as my Treo 680. I think that the people at Palm had better wake up soon. I am trying to be loyal to Palm OS but it has become increasingly difficult. I need a GSM, WiFi, 3G, LARGE HiRes touch screen, QWERTY, smartphone. I could care less what color it is!

According to Palm CEO Ed Colligan , the Centro has been appealing to women, teens, and other customers new to smartphones. If you or other customers want grey, black, or dark blue , there are already plenty Palm included) to choose from. I think they went different/odd (even ugly to some) to appeal to the folks who are buying them over at their rivals’ shop. I also think they’ll sell the hell out of these for $99. I’ll get one just as a standby until the next Palm on AT&T comes out next year.
I wonder if the new design guy that came over from Apple had anything to do with the green keypad…

I was at AT&T yesterday to exchange my Samsung Blackjack II for a Palm 750 despite the windows mobile os. (I previously had Sprint’s Palm 755p- which I loved!) So moving to AT&T was very hard and then to find the poor reviews on the 750 broke my heart. So I purchased the BLJK II. It’s nice, but I just don’t like the windows mobile os. I know, I’m crazy…I just love the Palm OS. So when the rep at the store told me about the Centro on Tuesday…First thought that came to mind was…Well, I hope it’s 3G - I hope. I like the look, but am weary over the small screen. I don’t mind the small keypad, I love the white and green mix, however, I will have to hold it and play with it before my last trade in. I am a Palm OS Fan and love it. I hope Centro is just as nice or better than the Treo.

The navigation is very quick. So quick that many Palm OS users are going to be very surprised! Don’t know what Palm did here but it’s quick. Brilliant screen (even though it’s small). Small, light and comfortable in the pocket. This is a lot of phone for the money. It’s a winner! They will sell tons of them. With Centros in U.S. and Europe, this is a nice consumer market piece for Palm until Nova OS releases next year.

I called ahead for mine at my local At&t store…and the rep said the keys are white, not green. So in my neck of the woods, I will have an all white one. I have researched all day, and will be there tomorrow to determine if infact I will be leaving with a Centro or a crummy Windows Based Treo. Either way, I can’t wait for a Palm to be in my palm!

I actually got this phone on feb 15th at at&t and I love it! It’s probably not the phone for someone who really needs to have a computer with them at all times but it’s great for someone who only needs it to plan and text. Also, the green keys look really nice with the phone (my taste I guess). And the glacier white is pretty feminine so probably not the color for some of you guys out there! I traded in my blackberry curve for this phone and it is the best decision I’ve made in a long time…I love this phone!
