It looks as if Dell’s Android handset is getting ready for prime time with AT&T as a new filing found on the FCC’s website has revealed the Mini 3iX. With both 850/1900 MHz bands of UMTS as well as Wi-Fi…

It looks as if Dell’s Android handset is getting ready for prime time with AT&T as a new filing found on the FCC’s website has revealed the Mini 3iX. With both 850/1900 MHz bands of UMTS as well as Wi-Fi on board, the 3iX is likely to be identical to the Mini 3i which was unveiled in mid-August by China Mobile, the only difference being the aforementioned. If this is indeed the case then we’re looking at a 3.5″ 360×640 touchscreen display, 3 megapixel camera, A-GPS and support for Microsoft Exchange. The question is, will anybody even care?

Remember when The Wall Street Journal said that Dell was working on an Android MID? Well it turns out that it was bang on as today images and a video of a prototype device known as the Streak emerged by way of everyone’s favorite Vietnamese mobile site. Running Android 2.0, the Streak boasts 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, a 5″ WVGA multitouch capacitive display, 5 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, Bluetooth, microSD and a 1300 mAh battery. Looking through all of the pictures, we couldn’t help notice what looks to be the spitting image of a front-facing camera for checking ones hair video calling, but then again it could just be the worst ambient light sensor ever. Enough talk. Hit the jump for a ton of pics and a video, because the Streak cries out to be seen.

A few things come to mind when we see a computer thinner than most mobile phones, including the iPhone. For instance, what could this thing possibly be packing besides a screen and a keyboard? At just 9.99mm thin, the Dell Adamo XPS sets the new standard for thinness in the notebook world, but quite frankly we hope this doesn’t become a new trend. There aren’t too many details on the new computer just yet – only that it’s ridiculously thin. And silver. And Sony’s X Series is right around the corner. What do you guys think, is your Macbook Air feeling a little too fat now?

Apparently when Dell went from carrier to carrier offering offering to make them handsets they weren’t as unsuccessful as we thought, for the Wall Street Journal has it on good authority that AT&T has commissioned Dell (where have we heard this before?) to make them an Android handset. Specifics are lacking at this point in time, but the device is reputed to be somewhat similar to the Mini 3i that Dell recently launched with China Mobile, in that it will have a “touch screen instead of a keypad as well as a tiny camera.” Alrighty. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have some Dell and AT&T ninjas to lean on for some intel.

Damn are our ninjas good. Dell’s Android-based China Mobile-bound Mini 3i, a smartphone that we first caught a glimpse of in mid-June, is now official. Unveiled today in Beijing, the Mini 3i (also apparently MINI3i) is an Android-based smartphone that runs on the Open Mobile System. Spec wise, the Mini 3i is not particularly impressive especially considering that it is EDGE-only and lacks Wi-Fi. Regardless, the handset is definitely a contender in the Chinese market where not even the carrier-pwner that is Apple can manage to release a Wi-Fi-enabled handset. Here’s the low-down on the specs:

Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE class 12

Size: 68.6cc

103g grams weight

Dimensions: 58 x 122 x 11.7mm

Display: 3.5″ nHD 640×360 LCD, 18-bit, 262K colors

OTA capable

Microsoft Exchange support

Google, AIM, Yahoo and MSN IM support

3 megapixel auto-focus, flash, 8x digital zoom camera with 30fps video shooting mode, built in photo editor

USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR

A-GPS

On-screen QWERTY keyboard, hardwriting recognition, multi touch UI

MicroSD slot

If that wasn’t enough, our source told us that the Motorola Android phone headed to Verizon isn’t called the “Shules” it’s the SHOLES (arguing over code-names, are we?) and it’s a 13.7mm slider. Better still, we were told to mark our calendars for a late September launch of the Motorola Morrison on T-Mobile.

Happy Android day, guys!

Dell smartphone rumors are starting to heat up as new info firms up the possibility that Dell is getting ready to announce its smarthphone to the Chinese market via China Mobile. The purported phone will be called the mini 3i…

Dell smartphone rumors are starting to heat up as new info firms up the possibility that Dell is getting ready to announce its smarthphone to the Chinese market via China Mobile. The purported phone will be called the mini 3i and will be part of the Android-driven Ophone Open Mobile Systems (OMS) platform. The Dell mini 3i is expected to be released later this month along with two other Ophones, the Lenovo O1 and the Dopod A6188. In a bit of a twist, the Lenovo O1 is expected to be the only OMS phone to be 3G-capable, sporting support for the newer TD-SCDMA network. The Dell and Dopod offerings will reportedly only support the older 2G GSM network. The veracity of this information is questionable, completely unverified and may be another one of those wild Chinese rumors but the source is pretty reputable so hopefully we’ll hear something official this week.

A rumor that has been bobbing its head in and out of water a lot lately is the eventual birth of an Android-based smartphone coming down the pipe from Dell. While we still have nothing concrete from the manufacturer itself,…

A rumor that has been bobbing its head in and out of water a lot lately is the eventual birth of an Android-based smartphone coming down the pipe from Dell. While we still have nothing concrete from the manufacturer itself, it appears as though a Dell phone could be coming very soon — within days, even. A source close to Techcrunch says the phone will either be announced or launched this week in China. The same source states that the handset will feature a full touchscreen form factor and it will lack a physical keypad, lining up perfectly with our render. Android is still the speculated OS, as it has been for months, though there’s no word on what if any modifications Dell has made to the UI. It will be interesting to see how this plays out but let’s just hope the Texas-based company does a better job on its phones than it did in the now-defunct PDA segment.

Having been talked about for quite some time and then all of a sudden dropping off the radar, talks of an Android-powered device from Dell has once again resumed. This time The Wall Street Journal has supposedly confirmed that Dell…

Having been talked about for quite some time and then all of a sudden dropping off the radar, talks of an Android-powered device from Dell has once again resumed. This time The Wall Street Journal has supposedly confirmed that Dell does indeed have “several Android-based smartphones that it plans to start selling later this year,” something that meshes nicely with the 2G and 3G devices we spoke of some two weeks ago. Perhaps more interesting however, is that Dell is believed to be working on an MID that is also said to run on Android, and it will reportedly be a little larger than Apple’s iPod touch. The WSJ cautions those who are prone to getting ahead of themselves that while Dell intends to release the MID later this year, the possibility its launch will be delayed or canceled cannot be ruled out. Duh. At least the phones are allegedly a lock.

Leave it up to our team of global ninjas — we’ve just got a shot of what we’re told will be one of Dell’s Android devices coming later this year. Yes, you heard that right — multiple handsets coming from…

Leave it up to our team of global ninjas — we’ve just got a shot of what we’re told will be one of Dell’s Android devices coming later this year. Yes, you heard that right — multiple handsets coming from Dell. It’s been rumored for a while, but we’re able to confidently report Dell is looking to introduce both 2G and 3G model devices in the near future. We don’t have any hard specs or even a name for the device pictured above, but we are able to report one thing: that UI is worse than Samsung’s TouchWiz interface cross-bred with a sea mammal.

Thanks, Daddy G.!
