When we told you yesterday that Telus was getting ready to offer the HTC Touch Diamond to its Canadian customers, we weren’t completely clear on the specs of the device. Thankfully, HTC hit us up with an official spec sheet from Telus, which provides all the dirt you could ask for on the first North American iteration of this coveted device. The biggest change, of course, is that unlike previous Touch Diamonds, the Telus iteration will be sporting an EV-DO Rev. A radio. The Telus Touch Diamond has also received a modest boost in the memory department, with 256 MB ROM/ 256 MB RAM to the GSM version’s quoted 256 MB ROM/ 192 MB RAM. That’s about all we could notice, save for an extra 5 grams of weight and an included case, so if you’ve fallen in love with the GSM version of the handset, there’s nothing about this CDMA version that should convince you otherwise. GPS, Wi-Fi, Touch FLO 3D, and much more are all still in full effect. Anyone excited?

Get ready for this one, folks. HTC has just announced that Telus will be the first North American carrier to offer the new HTC Touch Diamond. The handset will be offered “later this summer” for the low price of $149.99, though you’ll have to sign away 3 years of your wireless life. Telus also offers some pretty attractive data options, including a $15/month plan for unlimited email and IM, and $30/month for unlimited email, IM, and browsing. Not bad at all. We’re still waiting on official confirmation from HTC, but chances are good that this thing will be running EV-DO Rev. A, providing full 3G data speed in addition to the TouchFLO 3D interface, 4GB of internal flash memory, and much more .The Touch Diamond is one of the most coveted handsets to come out of the Windows Mobile camp in recent memory, so Telus has certainly scored a win by getting their hands on this before anyone else on the continent. Sure, we’ll see a Sprint version of this before too long, and chances are good that AT&T is planning their own variant, but first is first.

An internal carrier ninja has revealed to us that Telus is now training its employees on the new device, which reportedly sports integrated GPS and a 2 megapixel camera. We’ve also been told that it sports the updated browser that RIM has been touting. You know, the one with tabbed-browsing? It also will be running OS 4.3 out of the box. It sounds like this little package of CDMA joy should be available sometime in November, though we’re not sure as to the specific drop date or launch price. Stay tuned for more info as we get it!

UPDATE: Looks like the launch date will be the 17th of November, but that is not confirmed.

Thanks, Mate!

Today is a big day for our friends up North. Canadian telecommunications company TELUS has announced not one, but two brand new HTC devices for use on their mobile network. First up the HTC Touch, This is the same phone that we all know, and today’s announcement marks the first official arrival of the device on North American soil. Sporting Ev-DO connectivity, this hanseat comes complete with HTC’s TouchFLO interface, which is a pleasant shell for the Windows Mobile 6 OS. Next up is the HTC S640, which is like of hybrid between the Motorola Q9 and the new Palm Centro. Not the most attractive device, but new phones are always good, right? Plus it’s always nice when we get a heads up, too! Both devices will retail for $149.99 with a 3 year contract, $399.99 with a 2 year stint, $449.99 for 1 year, and $499 outright.

Thanks, Jean-Phillippe!

TELUS and Bell Canada subscribing BlackBerry addicts might be in a for a bit of disappointment here. The BlackBerry 8830 World Phone was supposed to be formally announced yesterday, with a projected ship date of June 22nd. Due to "unknown issues," however, the device launch and ship date have been pushed back indefinitely. While we don’t know exactly why RIM has recalled the device, we do that it is a RIM issue, not a carrier problem, and that all devices have been recalled pending a fix. TELUS is still hoping for a launch announcement by the end of June, but given the ambiguity and scope of the issue(s), we have our doubts that they will be able to pull that off. Is it just us, or is RIM having more than its fair share of issues with the BlackBerry 8830? First Verizon, then Sprint, now this? I guess it wasn’t as easy as Mike said, to "port GSM models over to CDMA". Come on, guys!

Thanks, Trever!

It looks like our friends up North will be getting a little bit more BlackBerry 8830 love. Telus announced today that they will be the second Canadian carrier, along with Bell Mobility, for the upcoming BlackBerry 8830 World Edition. Sporting a feature set that matches the specs touted by its CDMA brethren, the Telus BlackBerry 8830 features the usual suspects, including a dual band CDMA radio and GSM/GPRS roaming support for the international travelers among us. There’s no solid release date yet, with the Telus site simply listing the phone as "Coming Soon". Then again at $499 CDN which works out to roughly $450 USD on a 3 year contract, you can bet that a lot of BlackBerry-toting Canucks will have to think long and hard before taking the steep plunge. Well maybe not because if you’re a Telus customer who absolutely must have GSM roaming freedom, this is pretty much your only bet. Heh.

UPDATE: As a couple of our readers have pointed out, Telus is not the exclusive Canadian 8830 carrier. They will be sharing BlackBerry World Edition honors with fellow Canadian CDMA carrier Bell Mobility, who actually got the jump on Telus by announcing the device last week. Thanks, guys!

Canadian based cell phone provider, Telus is not going to be without an 8800 model of the Blackberry for long it would seem. Rogers, the other main carrier of BlackBerry phones in Canada already has the 8800 for sale. Final stages of testing are taking place, and the BlackBerry 8830 should be released on Telus shortly. This is the same BlackBerry 8830 which Verizon has named the "World Phone." It includes a QVGA display, microSD memory card slot, trackball, full QWERTY keyboard, and runs on the CDMA network with EV-DO and GSM support for international roaming. No details on price or release date yet.

Our tipster says to look for these to launch in about a month. The UTStarcom 6700 will be discontinued on Telus starting April 11th. <strike>We won’t blame Canada for this one! Sorry, I went there.</strike>
