iPhone 4 bursts into flames, burns hand
One of our very close AT&T sources just sent us in these images. Yes, it’s a fried iPhone 4. Apparently a customer brought the phone into the store to try and get help with it, although it’s pretty evident that the phone is unrepairable. It’s the first time our guy has seen this happen (us too), but the brand new iPhone 4 caught on fire while being hooked up to a computer using the Apple USB cable that accompanied the device. The customer wanted to exchange the iPhone — obviously — for a new, non-charred unit however the AT&T store in question was out of stock. An Apple Store did confirm to our AT&T connection that this did appear to be a defective USB port and not some sort of user error. Our source went onto say that the phone bezel was extremely hot (obviously), and it slightly burned the customers hand. The USB port in the phone was slightly melted and the cord was badly melted (as is apparent in the pictures). Hopefully this is the only time we see our beloved iPhones meet a fiery death. We’ve got one more picture for you after the break.
While i acknowledge that this is an issue and really says something about apples recent quality choices, I wouldn’t really call this bursting into flames.

The user was clearly holding the phone wrong when s/he plugged it in. Just need a $30 rubber case, and you’d be fine.

Nice focus on the second picture, I can see the fingers in great detail. I guess it would have been too costly to snap another digital picture with the focus on the proper area.

Have you ever played with a taser?? Well, if you have not, they also need the nuclear power supply needed to create the type of power you are talking about to fry something, right?? Not just a few AAA batteries (about the same voltage as a non-standard USB). Yeah, there is no way that a device like that would output the (higher voltage / watts / current) that if referred to here.
This is obviously fake. Come on the aluminum ring looks scratched instead of being flamed. And don’t tell me the protection layer for the front and back of the phone is soooo good it can’t even get stained when burnt. If yes then it would prove the iPhone is fire-proof! The cable is another joke. The fire burnt even the cable shows the intensity of the fire and yet the phone looks new. Heck the fire must have been burning for quite some time for the metal on the cable head to discolor. 1/3000000 is like the chance you will get hit by an airplane in a lifetime. Come on guys this must have been made by one of the millions of people seeking publicity on something that’s famous.
I Just Picked My iPhone 4 Up. It Didnt Catch Fire, But When I Picked It Up, I Noticed It Was VERY Hot… Through The Case That It Has On. It Has Never Got Hot. I Took The Case Off, And My Phone Was Too Hot To Hold, And I Probably Could Have Melted Some Butter On The Stainless Steel Band!!!
