A mysterious new Motorola smartphone — the A955 — was recently certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance for 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. The model number is new to us, but according to a week-old tweet from someone who monitors Android device signatures, the A955 is indeed the DROID 2, aka Shadow, and has been spotted cruising about the interwebs on Verizon’s EV-DO network. This flies straight in the face of an older rumor which pegged the model number as being the MB810. But think about it..all of Verizon’s recent Motorola handsets have the model number Axxx, including the the DROID — A855. Does’t it make sense that the DROID 2 would carry on in the same fashion? It’s not exactly concrete proof, but for now it’s the best we’ve got.

UPDATE: Looks like we can put the whole “Shadow is the DROID 2” rumors to bed. The same Twittter who tweeted about the A955 being the DROID recently tweeted that the MB810 is the Shadow.
