BlackBerry 9670 unveiled, CDMA clamshell device!

BlackBerry9670

With rumors and rumors of a clamshell BlackBerry device going back ages, we finally have some confirmation on the phone, and in a big way, too. Not only do we have the first photos ever of this BlackBerry 9670, and not only is it the first BlackBerry clamshell ever seen (we don’t really count the Pearl Flip), but it’s also running the first ever photos of OS 6.0 (on a device). We’d love to tell you all about this brand new BlackBerry device… after the jump!

The BlackBerry 9670 is a CDMA device packed to the brim with a full QWERTY keyboard, 5 megapixel camera (a first!), Wi-Fi, a 360×480 internal display, huge external display, trackpad, OS 6.0, microUSB port, microSD internal storage slot, Bluetooth, and a metallic finish casing. Obviously we’re far from final, and things can and will change, but that’s a pretty good overview. We’re working on getting more information, videos — the whole works –but for now, check out the best high resolution photo gallery of an unreleased, unannounced, unheard of device that you’ve ever laid eyes on.

I can remember when I purchased my first Blackberry. It was a Pearl. The first pearl. All my friends and coworkers had sanyo or samsung sprint flip phns or sidekicks or motorola clamshells. They were wowed by the web browser and the multimedia. They dazzled at all the features my phn had. Now , 3 years later I have the newest blackberrys. And its the reverse. There is NO blackberry I can buy right now that would dazzle even my little sister. I have realized that its time to look elswhere. I refuse to sink with the razr v3 ship. I am jealous of my lil sisters android phn that outperforms mine on every level.

I like your addage about the razr v3 ship, pretty funny as I used to own one…actually still do. Motorola at least moved forward with technology and now sails the Droid. Not my favorite looking phone, but at least it sports cutting edge technology. Can’t wait to trade in my BB 9630 Tour for the HTC Droid Incredible next month. Yeah baby!

This is the ugliest phone I have ever seen. I have a storm and I love it. Sure it has some faults like the white screen of death, hanging at times. But when it is working..wow. I have considered going with the storm2 but want to wait for a storm mdel with 6.0 if it ever happens.

I have the very first storm. I don’t think I would want this after the storm. It is ugly…bleh. Thinking about the Nexus One next…I didn’t now BB was dying until I talked to my brother the other night. It’s really sad cause I would like to give them my support.

Omg. I can’t even blog right on this blackberry. My best friend swears he doesn’t want any new tech cause he will not use it. So I guess he just loves to do battery pulls and what not.

Maybe all the kids laying this terrible hate down on Blackberry are just up past their bed time. I know my kids sure get pissy after 8:00pm and the I Droid phones sure do remind me of their Ninentendo DS’s and Leapsters. Just remember children when your mommy and daddy don’t pay the bills anymore you’ll need a real phone called a BLACKBERRY to make ends meet.

Wow! Look who’s stuck in the dark ages. Still using a Commodore 128 I bet. I like my Blackberry too, but there comes a time when you just have to move on. If I’m going to pay $30 a month for a data package, I might as well get the full experience. Blackberry RIM is a stick in the mud and all the other smartphone makers are sailing on by in sleek yachts and speedboats. Android, iPhone and other OS’s are purely amazing! The HTC Droid Incredible will be my next saber of choice. And oh darn if it leads to having a little fun or playing a game or two with the device. Damn the people who have a lil’ fun every once in a while. Yes I’m very much a tech geek!

Wow! This is more proof Blackberry is stuck in reverse. Where do they get their design engineers and who the hell is CEO of RIM….Colonel Sanders?? Aside from an improved OS and a 5 Megapixal camera Blackberry is extremly stagnant, and like the Titanic everybody’s heading for the lifeboats, myself included. Trying to use the internt utility is not a pleasant experience. I have used a BB for 3 years and have seen very little improvement in a smartphone world going through revoluntionary change. My BB 9630 TOur is a hell of a business phone, but it will become my backup phone once I receive my new Droid Incredible in the mail. Goodbye Blackberry, hello HTC w/Android. Good Day.

Mr. Spock, tell Scottie to beam us up! Absolutely ugly…. art deco here we go. RIM is really trying to drive themselves into the ground and like hypnotized lemmings the masses will follow like good little lemmings. My parachute is strapped on and I’m counting the days “29″ until I trade in my BB 9630 Tour for a Droid Incredible. It’s about time I drag myself outta of the dark ages ruled by RIM.

I agree with most of your protests. I’m not a RIM guy at all, but whilst I respect the company, I don’t understand their unwillingness to move forward with design and implement more modern touch screen devices within their line up. There’s a reason their once unbreakable grip on the smartphone market is slipping to iPhone and Android.

I’ve been a blackberry user since the first GSM blackberry and I have been an on/off shareholder for a few years. I know this company well and I have appreciated their work for a long time. That being said, this is probably the most disgusting smart phone I have ever seen. This would not have even looked good in 2003. RIM is starting to look pretty weak in the face all those other sweet phones out there…They are slowly losing their grip. I’m selling my stock if this is actually going to be released! Fix your shit RIM!

Cant wait! spoke to Sprint executive not confirmed of course but not denied sounded hopeful. For us clamshell lovers whats not to like wifi, apps, good camera with flash. To all the haters the touchscreen thing is getting old! They need to mix it up a little saw some you tube vids of the phone and it looks better then the pics too! I’m selling my Samsung Moment on Ebay as soon as this baby hopefully hits. It’s everything ive been wanting and im sure it will have its own nich of the market.

Ugly as hell!!!! WHY BLACKBERRY??? WHY CANT YOU JUST MAKE A THIN PHONE WITH A CAPACITIVE TOUCH SCREEN THATS FAST AND USER FRIENDLY AND JUST AS SECURE AS ALL YOUR OTHER PHONES!?!??! Im sure a few minor tweaks to the UI and some better hardware wont impede on the security!!

This board seems to be frequented by little kids who think form is more important than function. I’ve tried the sleeker, sexier phones and none of them has the innate abilities of the BlackBerry. Ugly it may be, but I bet this thing functions way better than the iPhone or the Droid.

Wow! A highly intelligent statement backed by facts, specifications, and examples of what phones you compared the Blackberry’s to. You sound exactly like “The Dirks” above using the “little kids” comparison again. Analytical you are not. Intelligent you are not. If you have a college degree I’d be shocked! Cause and Analysis are not your forte. I’m guessing you are attempting to compare multi-media phones to smartphones. Step aside and let the experts and Tech Geeks debate the facts. You obviously know very little about the iPhone OS, or the Android OS. I’m a Blackberry user and know better then that. Think before you type!

this Phone simply needs a more consumer friendly appeal. Blackberries serve the purpose that no other phone can, although at times the functionality of many features have not been updated in decades there are still come very good aspects. the email push technology is unmatched and they are to say the least durable products!!! my secondary device is an iphone… ANDROID SUCKS!!!

I dont understand how you can say Blackberry serves the purpose that no other phone can when:

      1. It can only serve the purpose of email, and people need much more from their PDAs now.

      2. Even it’s email system sucks because the BIS is always going down.

      3. Browser sucks

      4. Even data consistancy sucks… how many people have had to do battery pulls and/or “register device”?

I would love to have a blackberry flip. Although like the pearl better. I like flip phones. I’d take a slider on sprint, but would prefer a flip with an optical track ball…. never had a track ball that worked.

    Honestly?,

Why haven’t they fired their innovation team.

There is a serious broken link between the designers of the new blackberries and the Public.

I haven’t switched from my Bold 9000 since I got it, I was holding on, expecting they would WOW me again and I make the switch,

Unfortunately, It seems that *switch* will be to another phone maker, bbm just isn’t good enough to justify this garbage . . . .
    The 1st storm was horrible,

    Jim says:

Say what you will about BlackBerries… while the OS is a but dated anyone who is used to it can fly through functions very fast, usually with one hand. As far as the iphone, yea its flashy but there’s the “deathgrip” issue, and if you drop it once it’s shot. How about a spare battery? Oh that’s right you can’t change it. There’s also nothing like a nice dirty greasy screen after using it all day. And as far as android is concerned, these phones are toys. That’s right, toys. What good is a “phone” if the call making abilities are garbage. Tinny with poor reception and crap speakerphones. The biggest problem of course is that Google, aka Big Brother tracks just about everything you do. Do some research and you’ll find out that google takes your usage statistics and makes money off of you. No thanks google I’ll keep using my Blackberry because it’s a phone, that works well as one, not a toy with a gimmick.

This is a nice form factor – the only other ones I can think of are the LG Lotus and Lotus elite, but they’re non-smartphones. I do really want something with a big screen and a portrait keyboard that’s pocketable. And not a slider because I got burned by the hardware on the Pre (though WebOS kicked ass).
This one probably has my name written on it – after 6 months with the iPhone 3GS and the Samsung Moment, I do really want something with a portrait keyboard and a large screen. Hopefully OS6 doesnt slow down the phone too much!

PLEASE!!! Sprint let this one be true. I have so been wanting a flip phone with a decent Full qwerty, & apps, wifi, & with a decent camera that has a flash!. & this looks like it could be it!!!! This looks like the complete package rolled into one. Classic flip convenience with all the features whats not to like!!! getting kinda tired of all the touch screen stuff myself. I mean I do like my Samsung Moment and all but I would design something like this. They need to mix it up a little.
