Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac gets undressed

Office-Mac-1

We’ve just scored some of the first shots of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, and while they are said to be very early, you can clearly see the progress that has been made in the transition to native Cocoa applications. Outlook for Mac looks absolutely delicious, and we can’t wait to actually get our hands on it. Also included in the shots are the 2011 versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Hit the gallery for all the goodies!

MS is taking to long to update…. They are losing their momentum.
I have been a MS Office user all my life (first PC than MAC). Because I didn’t like MAC Office 08 I slowly started using iWork in my work. With iwork.com to share files with PC users I now have realized I don’t need MS Office anymore.
Why should I go back to MS Office? What are the benefits?

Why waste Money when you can get the work done for free??!?!!

I have been using OpenOffice for years. I am absolutely satisfied.

I believe one should use his/her money for something else.

    Spend but don’t waste.

But for the hardcore Excel is irreplaceable. The smartest thing Microsoft ever did is to stop selling Excel as a standalone application.

Problem with office for mac is the lack of VBA macro support. As a engineer i experience that excel for mac is useless as PC spreadsheets don“t work. I consistently use Open office due to the better VBA support and overall compatibility with office for PC.

I wonder if vba for excel mac will support mysql commands. So far only excel for PC has been able to do this.

*yawn* a lacklustre crippled version of office to make people who recently made the switch to a mac feel like Windows is better. Don’t even buy this shit, iWork is miles better.

Wow, not much difference from 2008 version. Too ugly to care!

Has Microsoft announced any upgrade path yet? I was thinking of buying Office 2008 for Mac, but I’d hate to have to turn around and spend more money in just a few months.

At least they’ve kept a decent functionality in the menubar on top of the screen, unlike the latest Windows poop.
Still, just another piece of crap I wont spend any money on – whats the point in upgrading anyway? – what kind of “must have” can you find in an office bundle?
    - Improved clipart? – Even more embarrassing ways to show off your pie-chart or another crappy way to make a slideshow?
–Oh, I forgot – you probably wont be able to open the Office 2011 Word document in Office 2008….

Is there any information regarding right-to-left support in this version?

    @ uthne

the “must have” feature is that its “less crappy” than office 2008…. sadly, this is probably the biggest reason to upgrade.
