Motorola DROID update delayed?

DROID-OTA-Delay

We have heard from multiple sources that the much-awaited Android 2.1 OS upgrade due to start today, has been delayed. We’re told a last minute bug late last night was found. There is no new ETA. We’ve reached out to Verizon for confirmation.

UPDATE: Changed from a Whisper to a post as we added an image confirming this.

Thanks, ukno!

      I think you are missing something here, buddy.
      This is a software update, it has nothing to do with Motorola. This update is from Google and through Verizon, Motorola just makes the hardware. That’s like yelling at Dell because Microsoft won’t release an update for Windows.

          Haha Apple thinks they have a patent on everything. They’re trying to lock out the market because the DROID is going to take away so many potential iphone users. Apple has done a good job of creating an elitest cult but thats about it

        Only one thing is wrong about your statement. It has everything to do with Motorola. Google creates the Android Operating System as an open source project. Individual manufacturers then take that OS and make their own versions that are THEN put on to the phone. Motorola has had to rework their version of the OS to be compatible with 2.1, thus the delay. As a software developer I can tell you it’s no simple task.

    @Verizon Droid Sucks
    You are a retard that needs to get his facts straight. The only difference between this update and the Nexus is the 5 screens (I agree, that is a loss) and the 3d launcher for the applications. None of what you complained about is better on the Nexus, so shut up. It is a nice update, not amazing, but a step. No ball was dropped. The only real complaint you should have is that “I think” the Droid update does not come with 5 screens.

      You should check out the Pandahome App, it’s free and you can have up to 11 screens! I’m currently using 7.

    There are free apps that already add homescreans. Home++ bumps you all the way to seven, and it is a free app. That is the beauty of open source coding, one app changes the entire interface, rather that just adding an icon to the pages and pages of apps on the stock black background. Don’t get mad though, iPhone users, you can change your lock screen picture! Wait, Droid can do that too???? Crap, I’ll get back to you on that

    Some people have reported or claim to know that the update is rolling out as scheduled. Personally I think they are conspiracy theorists but…we will find out tomorrow at noon. Lets hope they are right. Still three months for motorola to develop 2.1 from Google and give it to VZW long time. Hello Nexus with direct updates from Google. Will wait and see

    So, does this update have the flash player also? It’s very frustrating to get to a site and you can’t use it. Also, whick is better Eris or Droid? Thanks

      That stuff on the link you gave is several days old. It only explains the first delay from back in February. Doesn’t say anything about what the delay is this time.

    You people b*tching are seriously in the dark. ROOT your phone and drop a custom 2.1 ROM on yourself. Why wait for VZW and Google? Hell, they can keep their stupid update, I know I won’t be using it…

    OK, why is it in the release notes that Night Mode will be available in navigation if it already exists with the latest Maps 4.1 update? As if it’s not already available. Or did my phone some how get through some loophole and I have night mode on navigation with Android version 2.0.1??

    I’m loving the new “pinch and zoom” feature! The live wallpapers, speech to text update is really sweet as well! So far, I’m liking the 2.1 update….

    The last minute bug maybe is the most confusing one. Since the new ETA cannot be told by Motorola, it is sure to tough for them to deal with. What we can do is just wait.
