HTC Nexus One to hit the Now Network (Sprint)

Nexus One Sprint

Yesterday AT&T, today Sprint, tomorrow the world? In a press release this afternoon Sprint announced the pending release of the HTC Nexus One:

Nexus One, the first wireless phone sold through Google’s web store, is planned for Sprint’s 3G Mobile Broadband Network. Sprint will announce pricing and an exact availability date soon.

As with all the carriers, the Nexus One will be sold exclusively through the google.com/phone web store when it becomes available. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear any rumblings on the exact release date. Another Nexus One release coming unannounced and out of left field. Wow.

You know it just amazes me how EVERY carrier is announcing & getting the Nexus One before Verizon, and Verizon was slated to be the second carrier with the phone ever since the damn thing came out. I mean I think Verizon has great service and all, but how come we are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS, the last to get shit thats hot & current, not to mention software & OS updates? I just don’t get it. For example the Palm Pre ( sales are horrid), the Tour2 (should have been what the original Tour was), OS 5.0 (still no date of release & every blackberry on other carriers have it), & now this. AM I THE ONLY PERSON THAT HATES VERIZON FOR THIS VERY REASON???????

This is the very reason that I will be leaving Verizon for a much cheaper Sprint plan and a Nexus one!! Go Sprint!

@racster Uh no, wrong again jack. Spriant was part of the original open-handset alliance with the Android platform and an early adopter. Good luck with that T-Mobile speed lol (have you guys even decided when you are goign with 4G?). Oh yeah thats right we already have it. The first and only 4G network from a national carrier. You are the weakest link, good bye.

T-mobile has decent speed wherever they have 3G. I am actually quite impressed with their 3G network along with their cheap plan and great customer service.

As for when T-Mobile is going 4G. They might not have to. It is really important for CDMA providers than GSM ones.

Check this article about T-Mobile’s HSPA+ speed and performance. This might educate you a little bit. I doubt though.

My guess is the Verizon is actually putting together some plans to go along with this. That means setting up authentication servers and training all the reps on how to deal with the new plans/phone. AT&T doesn’t want anything to do with Google and is not offering any special plans for their customers to buy this, therefore, Google doesn’t need to wait to offer it for sale. As soon as HTC manufactures it, Google can sell it.

Some rumors are that VZW will be the first retailer to sell the phone (N1) in the stores, not just online. Google has said recently that they would look into other options. So maybe we will find out next week (23rd rumor). On a apple bashing side note, it now looks like apple needs a VZW iphone, not VZW needs an iphone.

Nice, the Nexus will be on every network in the U.S. then. It would be nice if Sprint subsidized this. I would be extremely tempted to sell my Droid, pay the ETF, and go with this. Sprint has the perfect mix of affordability and coverage and the only reason I left them was because they didn’t have any high end Android phones.

This argument is academic at best. Both the Desire and the Incredible are going to have essentially identical specs and the same OS with Sense UI, so who gives a rip which network gets which name? It’s the same scenario as Sprint having the HTC Hero, and Verizon having the Droid Eris. Exact same phone, with the exception of a couple minor hardware tweaks.

That’s just weak sauce trying crap on the phone coming to Sprint, you really want to compare a virtually unlimited $70 plan with a $200 ETF that goes to a minimum $50 plan with a minimum $70 (talk/data) plan with a $350 ETF that goes to $110. If a sub hasn’t figured out Sprint doesn’t work in 30 days they deserve the ETF and the contract plans are still cheaper than vzw

          Thumb up Thumb down +1

          • betchplz says:

You need to brighten your bulb if you think Sprint charging an ETF on a customer that should be M2M is ok. Virtually unlimited? Please.. stop snorting the same meth Dan Hesse is snorting. It’s not virtually unlimited. Buy the same phone at the same price for T-Mobile and it’s $70 for totally unlimited talk.text.web if you select phone first web and $80 if you want the smartphone data plan.. blows Dan Hesse’s dumb idea of “Unlimited M2M” out of the water. And this is a totally fresh and new idea, if you don’t want data or text, you don’t have to pay for it! Try that with Sprint.

This phone isn’t even coming to Sprint, Google is offering it to people on the Sprint network unsubsidized. It’s about time, because your CEO only cares about comparing his “Unlimited Mobile to Mobile” plans to true unlimited plans and not getting a phone that is worth a damn.

He’s right sprint’s network is not good at all. I live in the NY metro area and It really sucks. I can’t even say 2 sentences with out getting a dropped call. Believe it or not T-mobile has way better reception than Sprint.

Really? Really? You believe that Sprint’s service in the NYC metro area is so bad that two sentences is the maximum communication time? My sister-in-law lives in Brooklyn and she’s had no problems with her service at all. She moved to Sprint from AT&T and has had nothing but positive reviews. But you’re welcome to pay insane amounts of money to Verizon or AT&T for service you THINK is superior if you like.

    Brad says:

Honestly, I could care less about the Nexus One. I want the Incredible with Sense UI, and the way things are looking with the T-Mobile Nexus One, I don’t want to get tied up in the nightmare of trying to renew my Verizon contract via Google. Once my 1-year contract with the Droid Eris is up, I plan to buy the Incredible (probably with a 2-year contract this time, as the hardware should be powerful enough to last a while) online and shipped directly to me. No hassling with the morons in the Verizon stores who just can’t to sell you useless accessories and plans you don’t want or need, and no dealing with stupid mail-in rebates either (online purchases get instant discounts).

I still think the direct sales model has merit, but the execution needs some work. I personally think Google should just sell the unlocked versions directly, and let the carriers sell the subsidized versions. And though I hate to say it, the concept of an “unlocked” phone is actually laughable in the USA right now, because there is no one phone that will work on every single carrier.

i highly doubt with all the money sprint is losing that they want to start subsidizing the iphone at the prices that AT&T has. Also say what you want but real speed test i always see AT&T and T-Mobile rape on sprint and vzw i have streamed high quality youtube videos on the droid, jailbroken iphone with 3g/wifi hack and HD2 and the droid was the slowest. Sprint did themselves in with there SERO plans and now they are feeling it when all there SERO customers are leaving because they cant get good phones on the cheap plans. On that note way to go android from G1 to N1 on all carriers =] lets see what apple has in store for us come june they got WP7 and Android gunning for them

I’d be all over Sprint execpt you CANNOT get service without signing a 2yr contract no matter what, they will not budge under any circumstance.

It’s BS to pay an ETF on a plan with an unsubsidized phone. Why else besides keeping you “prisioner” would they do that?
