XDA-developers have Windows Phone 7 code, 8-months before release

logoWorried about the multitasking capabilities of Windows Phone 7? Worried it will only have support for one ActiveSync profile or be missing some of those key features from Windows Mobile 6 platform? Well, we’re pretty sure the good people over at XDA-developers are going to have you covered come release time. A full eight months before it is due to hit the streets, the tinkerers over at XDA-devs have acquired a code dump of the Windows Phone 7 operating system. The code was pulled from the SDK emulator image and currently only runs on an x86 PC, but the XDA gang is already starting to prod and dissect the code in anticipation of a full ROM. You can hit up the XDA forum to get in on the conversation. Let the games begin.

If M$ had some cojones, they’d unveil a schedule to open source the damn thing when they release the first phones.

Because I’m betting on Nokia and Intel doing a good job of producing a platform for a near universal computing environment, without any licensing imposed barriers.

I think you’re right, Nokia and Intel will produce a great, open platform. And like the N900 it will be completely overlooked and Android and iPhone will continue to rule them all.

They are like family man its crazy.. You can really hold convos with the main devs, and they ASK and listen to your input.. I have CDMA so Im mainly on PPCgeeks but XDA is the father of ALL phone dev work… If you use maemo, symbian, iPhone, android, web os, or whatever you owe these guys big..

I know there will be no zune phone, but hopefully someone will take inspiration from the device. It looks slick in gunmetal and super-thin and keep with with as little branding as possible and do away with button clutter. I just dont want to see a sexy OS like Windows Phone 7 series, ruined with a huge samsung written across the front. Maybe a subtle/faint HTC on the back, and find a way to hide the carrier logo (ie. the palm pre’s Sprint and Verizon logos can only be seen when the device is open on the mirrored back) FINGERS CROSSED!

I’m really looking forward to Mobile 7. If nothing else, it’s a fresh start for Microsoft, and at best, it will help push Android and iPhone to improve. Win win for all
