Samsung Galaxy Spica now available from Rogers, will get 2.1 update
As was widely expected, Rogers today announced the immediate availability of the Samsung Galaxy Spica. The carrier’s fourth Android smartphone, the Galaxy Spica offers a 3.2″ AMOLED HVGA capacitive display, 3.2 megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3.6Mbps HSDPA/UMTS, 800MHz processor and up to 7 hours of talk time and 10 days of standby for $79.99 on a standard 3-year deal. Anyone that was hoping it would come pre-loaded with anything past Android 1.5 aka “Cupcake” will be sorely disappointed, although we’ve received official word from Rogers that an update to Android 2.1 is in the works, there are “no details on timing to share at the moment.” C’est la vie.

Has anybody noticed how the little Android dude looks like a Southpark Canadian?

@StevenGlansburg
What racial undertones? It’s not the ‘Spic’
‘Spica’ is a star from the constellation Virgo or something. Thus the Galaxy ‘Spica’. I think it’s the start of the Galaxy series of Android phones. We will probably be seeing Galaxy this and Galaxy that in the years to come.
Oh, and I’m a Latina and see nothing wrong with the name, just the stupidity of Rogers launching another crappy 1st Gen Android.

I like this.
Spica is a female.version of spic which us a male Latin man. This phone looks very Spanish and girly good name for it
So happy to see all these new phones dropping in the face of the apple suit. Saftey in numbers kids. They need to form a coalition of sorts. It is an exciting time to be sure. Droid rocks even if on2.0.1 and not 2.1. Yet. Keep on. Keepin on.
@StevenGlansburg
So what is a Galaxy “Spica” ? What does it translate to you as? Let me guess….hmm..must be the Spanish Galaxy?
Those with half a brain and any Astronomy knowledge know what the name is referring to. There will obviously be other Galaxy branded phones carrying the name of other stars from other constellations.
Can you get this thing off contract?
Oh nevermind – I found it
I have been reading many posts about angry Droid users in the states with Verizon who have many issues sync with exchange. Mailboxes disappear, items not showing up, and calendar not syncing.
I spent countless hours with my iPhone trying to sync my iphone. There is no real documentation on the process or where to start. I spent many weeks with my tech guy —(and many sleepless nights!!). He kept on wanting me to upgrade my server to 2008. Yet, we just purchased this system. Finally came across these flat rate guys. Boy, worth every penny. I think from start to payment it was only about 20 minutes. Check them out. By the way we tried the godaddy cert. not much help either. I suspect they can assist you with your setup as well. http://computerrepairservice.net/blog/activesync-iphone-2/
Oh i’m sure Rogers is planning on launching 2.1 for it soon (enter sarcasm). They have also promised this for the dream and magic users. They will probably just do them at the same time..near the end of the year when 2.1 will also be outdated.
check out: TransitMe now in the android market
In india this phone not yet launched..husshh Not able to get update for 2.1 officially..If I upgrade myself will it voide warrenty?
