Mobile application market could grow to over $15 billion by 2013?
TechCrunch found an interesting study by analyst firm research2guidance. The study claims that the mobile application market place could grow from a $1.94 billion business in 2009 to a $15.65 billion business in 2013; a growth rate of around 807%. The study also predicts the smartphone user base to grow from 100 million to 1 billion in that same time frame. Numbers like these should certainly get the attention of major corporations and could be the motivating factor in the proliferation of corporate mobile applications. Currently, only 10% of the Fortune 2000 are engaging their customer base with a mobile application. This got us wondering… what corporate mobile app do you use frequently? I personally use the Bank of America and New York Times applications almost daily.
So when will the Android Market start having higher quality apps?
What the hell are you talking about. There are tons of high quality apps.
I love my pocket quicken, but will lose that when I move to android (if Verizon ever comes out with a decent offering).
I really do not like the idea of operating entirely in the cloud because companys come and go, and services come and go. How screwed would everyone be if Google decided to take down gmail? You are one corporate decision from losing your archive, and I do not intend to go gently …
I agree with you. My friends make fun of me because I keep every thing on hard drives (backed up on other hard drives) just in case that situation were to ever happen. Or for some weird reason, my internet connection was down.
As for corporate apps: CNN, NY Times, BofA, Fox News, My Wireless (at&t), The Weather Channel (? not sure if that’s corporate).

This is why companies like Appboy http://appboy.com have good things going for them, they are the social network for app develoeprs and users, i use them as i am a developer.
Great question, Andrew. I would actually take your idea one step further and ask: Which corporations do you regularly do business with, and which of those could you see offering mobile apps that would improve the client experience by offering mobile access to core services or even new/extended mobile services?
The success of apps by large companies such as Bank of America, Pizza Hut and Nike indicate the opportunities for these organizations to extend their services to existing customers who are on-the-go.
