AT&T to sell Apple iPad 3G in stores?

One of our AT&T connects down south just hit us up with some pretty interesting info… According to them, AT&T stores will be selling the 3G version of the Apple iPad, complete with built-in display. We’re told that the general plan is to convert one or two existing netbook display sections in each corporate AT&T location into a pretty substantial iPad display area. More as we get it…

There is no 2 year contract needed with the new data plans for the iPad. It’s a month to month plan and it’s unlimitted. There is also a reduce MB data plan too for a bit less, also no contract term required.

agreed i left verizon to go back to AT&T and my bill isnt so bad compared to verizon wich was terribly high! AT&T may not be as good as verizon but using it with a blackbery bold rather than an iphone is a lot better than i expected at&t looked after me and if they continue to i will stick them. Each to their own allso their phones are GSM wich means i can use it in england wich verizon ermmm cant really do so id rather go with a world standard :-)

ohh the world cup this summer who’s excited?!! meee i am !!

Thomas, think you forgot, there is no contract with the iPad when you get the 3G one and you get access to all of AT&T’s WiFi spots. Does Verizon give away the MiFi with no contract?

it would be nice if we could use the iphone 3gs as a modem for the ipad, if you were so inclined to carry both. Otherwise, all i would get is the wifi only model. But i wont get the ipad anyway, so….there’s that.

In my opinion I think the $100+ difference between the Wifi only and the 3G version is At&t cut and not because of the added radio.

I also think that At&t may have agreed to display and sell the iPad on prepaid in order to secure an iPhone exclusivity extension.

As our VPGM said at the meeting couple days ago, we won’t be selling the iPad in stores (why would we?) but talks are continuing.

Pay no mind to those who kvetch that the iPad isn’t an acceptable business machine. Of course it isn’t – that’s not what it’s for.

Let me explain a few FACTS.
At&t is skipping 4g and going to LTE.
Before that happens, at&t will push 3g to the max. which is 7.2mbps. LTE is gonna be 10mbps and more. When we put in fiber for uverse we put in fiber for our tower. 60% of the towers in the us are less than 100 feet from our fiber. towers go through t1 copper lines and fiber. if ya didnt know. so when you are pushin through copper its maxed out at 7.2mbps. people say that at&t wont be able to handle that type of bandwidth. people get iphones for 100 bucks. 200 is the most popular. how many people do you honestly think will buy a 600 dollar unit. there is no contract. therefore there is no discount!! its an amazing product at&t will carry it and apple as well. but think about that. how many people are honeslty going to pay 600 dollars for it. thats cheap in my opinion but people complain about a 30 dollar case. i mean come on.

Why would an Att core store that sells 60 month netbooks on contract put a superior product in store and sell it for half the monthly price un-commited to a contract. Furthermore what do you think would be the motivation for a commisioned sales person to sell this product.

Anyone who thinks that the iPad isn’t going to be a serious contender in the business market isn’t paying attention. There are already solutions being developed for developing vertical markets. Medical professionals are drooling over the idea as I write this. Imagine restaurant and hotel waiters using one. The possibilities are almost endless. There is absolutely no reason why the iPad can’t do everything that netbooks and tablet PCs are being used for now…..only better.
As for the 3G version versus the WiFi-only one: If AT&T ever comes through on their promise to allow tethering on the iPhone, then a $500 iPad is definitely going to join my techno-arsenal.

hey stupid didn’t you read the latest PC magazine test? AT&T outperformed ALL carriers in connecting and staying connected to the network via phonecall and datacards. So your stupid, Verizon is slooooow and you guys HAVE to advertise your 3G coverage so strongly since when 4G launches it’ll only be for data…..Your 3G network is CAPPED at 1.6 mps???? really??? GHETTO!!! No wonder you guys were able to build your network out so much you had no data upgrades to do! 75% of ALL smartphones run on AT&T. GO talk on your flip phone in Montana, I have video and music to stream in New York City.

ACTUALLY….we are going to 14.4 before LTE. call the VPGM of the northeast for AT&T stupid…but I heard it from him. and OUR 3G map will at the end of 2010 rival Verizons. Once again …. Verizon stuck at 1.6….
