Sony Ericsson confirms that it will update the X10 past Android 1.6
In a rather lengthy blog post, Sony Ericsson explained its decision to launch its long awaited Android offering, the X10, with Android 1.6 instead of the newer Android 2.1. In a nutshell, Sony Ericsson is not focused on the version of the OS as much as it is the total UI package offered by Android and SE’s proprietary OS layer dubbed the Sony Ericsson User Experience Platform. Despite its handsome hardware and slick UI, Sony Ericsson realizes that people still want the features of the latest Android OS and has confirmed that it will offer an update to the X10 and its Sony Ericsson User Experience Platform at some point after launch. It is a nice gesture, but it would be even nicer if the handset manufacturer would get the handset out the door before promising upgrades.

You want the newest version of the Operating System?
Alrgiht, Alrgiht already we will give you an update…
Phew, you customers are so annoying, always want your moneys worth… Give us a brake common…
XD Sony FTW!
Yeah with retail price of X10 around $800 dollars compared with $529 for N1, it is our right to ask for the latest version of the OS, isin’t it?

@Noo, exactly! And I don’t know how they can justify the price with the N1 being $ 529. I don’t think that .3″ of screen space equates to $ 300… Fail Sony!
GREAT!
Oh wait, there’s still no word on whether this device will release on T-Mobile, let alone in the US, or when this device will release in the US, or the cost or…
You know what, nvm.

according to SE T-mobile will not carry X10….
Of course not. Why would T-Mobile wanna bring in things like the X10 or the Droid when they can re-release the myTouch 37 times and bring in crap like the Zepplin?
I don’t care what Sony does with the UI layer, if they’re shipping it with an outdated OS, I’m not interested. It’s called the Android Market and there are minimum requirements for certain apps.
Would anyone buy a Sony computer with Windows Vista and a custom Sony UI over Windows 7 for the same money? No way, Jose.

I call BS. They just want people to buy this phone. Look at Cliq, it’s still running 1.5 and Moto has been promising update for months. Same thing with Sense, although I have more faith in HTC then I do in Sony or Moto.

I don’t trust Sony Ericsson. They abandoned the Xperia X1 (no updates) in favor of the X2 and since this is their first Android Phone I expect the same. They are already off to a bad start only having version 1.6 at launch. Also it will be available who knows when knowing SE.
I was once so excited about this phone coming out but it seems like every month there is a new excuse for the phone OS, no release dates , no pricing , still not confirmed at all for US, and now theres a whole mess of 4″ smartphones hitting the market really soon that I dont even care about the phone anymore. Sony lags big time in the cell phone industry.
I wanted this phone. But thanks to Sony i wll get somethig that is actually available. By the time this phone gets released it will be so outdated!!!!
what are the odds this phone will be rooted then custom firmware can be applied? the hardware on this phone is so nice. but i REALLY want all the newest updates to both android and all of the android apps. seems the nexus is the only phone doing this in a timely fashion with the droid a bit behind it. neither of those phones work on rogers wireless. sigh, ive been waiting so long for an android phone and still no options.
nexus one works on rogers and so does the droid – you just have to unlock them
This phone will fail just like the other xperia series device.
Potential is there but $ony just drops the ball. Only thing interesting are the specs and the fact Android will be loaded as an os.
They, ($ony) dont give a rats ass about its customers, so why should the customers care?

Anyone who believes Sony or Sony Ericsson is crazy! The promised upgrades to the Xperia X1 I paid almost $700 for and sony dropped the ball. Sony are liers when they come to support.
People still care about this $2000 phone?
The X10 is not going to sell well, especially in the US. this is for two reasons. one, the OS is outdated and people at this point know that android updates take forever to happen, which means people who buy the X10 under the promise of a future update will never actually see the update. did people with mytouch 3g get passed the 1.6 version? heck no! and by the time SE releases the phone in the US, who knows what android version will have come out? froyo?
the second reason is how the X10 specs will be outdated or widespread on other phones by the time the phone is released.
SE has a sad and mysterious history of delaying phone releases. i dont know why but they just cannot seem to release their phones. remember that the X10’s release had been postponed several times before the march and april releases that we are now hearing about. it’s very sad. think of what kind of HTC, Dell, apple, palm, and motorola phones there will be available to americans around summer time: plenty!!! why would anyone bother with the X10? why? and to make matters worse, it is actually still unknown whether the hardware itself supports MT. there are rumors out there that it does not. who knows?
lots of BS people here I see.
SE has missed the launch of the products in 4 years, the P1 and the X1. So stop saying that they’re never in time and other BS.
Regarding the update; this has been planned all along. SE knew this would be needed all along as it is a phone that is developed in iterations just like the iphone.
They will release software with more goodies during the year.
At last: Xperia X1 did get at least 3 updates so stop BSing about that too.
Stop hating dudes.
Everyone wants the X10! It is the sh*t!
No one likes american sh*t that just brakes down.
Oops…. I’m a hater too it seems…
