Google airs rare search advertisement during Superbowl

Google - Persian Love Ad

Rumors of a Superbowl ad for Google’s search service began circulating the internet last week when Google CEO Eric Schmidt tweeted: “Can’t wait to watch the Superbowl tomorrow. Be sure to watch the ads in the 3rd quarter. (someone said, ‘Hell has indeed frozen over’).”  Google, a company known for it’s web advertisements, rarely (ever?) spends company dollars on television-based ads for its line of web services. However, as tweeted by the CEO, a Google spot did air during the third quarter of the big game last night. We thought the 60-second spot, titled “Parisian Love”, was pretty clever and deserved a nod, even though it wasn’t exactly new. Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints on their victory last night; we have the video queued up for you after the break.

I don’t get Google. They advertise that they search but they don’t advertise the Nexus One. Are they turning stupid at Google? Everyone in the world knows Google is a search engine.

they just want to REMIND you that you already use google and that EVERYONE knows google and google is the one and only way to find everything you need, alot of people dont think to search for everyday questions on google anf i’ll bet you they had a huge response from this ad, its simple its sweet and it instantly ties google together with a good feeling and love AMAZING SPOT you just dont know anything about marketing, its about advertising your core product and showing you are better than the others your customers will come and they will buy buy buy everthing you offer and dont forget adsense makes google 95 percent of their profits

Here’s a hint folks: The purpose of the advertisement wasn’t to promote Google’s search capabilities. That would be like Budweiser running an ad with people drinking beer or Ford running an ad of people driving cars.

C’mon, I know you people can think a little deeper…

I thought the add had great production value and was overall really well done. As to your point, I completely agree. I see it as a message showing people how Google can do just about anything for you at every stage of life… sort of like the one tool (dare I say company) that can help you lay out the road map of life.

It’s definitely deeper than “Look, Google is good at searching for things”

I thought it was just a good ad, nothing more and nothing less. Did they need it? No. But hey, it’s the super bowl so why the hell not?

Google is after all Google because of their search engine kill Bing… The real snub would’ve been if they backed out of the screen and shown someone pinch and zooming the whole thing… Good commercial overall…

Maybe Google is just reminding folks that they are the biggest search engine around for a reason. Do you all Bing something? I sure as hell don’t. I’d rather Google it.

A good first step on tv ads..i hv been screaming at the top of my lungs on why Google isn’t doing tv ads to let the masses know abt such a superb phone..the Nexus one. I would’ve loved to see a second spot abt the N1 as the whole country was watching..the perfect captive audience to let everyone know abt this gr8 device..that would’ve been awesome. But its not too l8 to do some ads on the Nexus one. I’m aware there are ads on the N1 plastered all over the net..but google should know not everyone has a computer. Do ads w/a catchy tune just like those done by Htc..but instead of using different phones..they should highlight the key features of the N1. The Nexus one in my view beats the other much hyped phone in abt 70% of the specs nd u can multitask, use voice to compose emails/txt, google nav etc..awesome phone

Interesting, this video is slightly different than the commercial aired last night. In this one, an American Airlines flight is searched, last night, it was a Delta flight.

good ad, even if very hetero/pro-family/baby…

BTW, you say “Google, a company known for it’s web advertisements” — should be “its web” it’s=it is

Someone else had mentioned this on another site but if you watch Top Gear on BBC pause it at 25 seconds and the 6th search suggestion is “Who is the Stig”
