Dev-Team releases PwnageTool for iPhone OS 3.1.3

Jailbreak Pineapple

They’re back at it again. The iPhone dev-team has released an update to their popular jailbreaking software, PwnageTool, for Mac OS X. The new PwnageTool — version 3.1.5 — boasts the ability to properly jailbreak Apple’s recently released 3.1.3 iPhone/iPod Touch firmware. Before you get too excited, the dev-team does offer up this proclamation, “Unless you’ve personally observed a problem with the reporting of your battery percentage, there’s no reason to update to 3.1.3.” For those that feel the need for a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch with the 3.1.3 firmware follow the read link; let us know how it goes in the comments.

New iPhones are not jailbreakable and it only allows a tethered jailbreak if I am not mistaken.

Seriously? They can’t be jailbroken? I just bought one last week (3gs, ver 3.1.3) and I’ve been waiting for the new jailbreak. Is the tethered thing temporary or is it the only solution for a 3gs?

Will it Unlock it? My wife updated her iPhone 3G on T-Mo to 3.1.3 and locked herself out. I was able to Jailbreak it but as you know, the firmware 5.12.01 will not let you unlock it to use on anything but AT&T.

So, will this allow you to Unlock it?

Wait a couple days… there will be an unlock solution. There always is…

Now, seriously… by now you should know better than to update the firmware if you need it unlocked

Hey, I know better. Tell that to my wife. And of course, it was my fault for not being there to stop her, so she says.

Why not just get a phone that doesn’t need to be unlocked to allow extra functionality?

Yeah… I sold my iPhone 3GS 16GB for $400 (it appears I sold it WAY cheap… which would explain 4 calls in 10 minutes after hitting the POST button) a few weeks ago and went with a Touch Pro 2.

There are some things I miss about the iPhone but it’s nice to be able to access the file system and transfer my documents, music, and movies without the need to “sync” all the time. No more worries about jailbreaking or unlocking anymore.

I use to follow these guys religiously, but this whole process has become a major pain and the only reason i used to jailbreak was for putting apps in the background. Its starting to look like i need a phone that has these features out of the box.

So this jailbreak can only be installed from a Mac computer?

I’m guessing we should see an update to Blackra1n soon.

From what I gather if you have a new 3gs with the new booteom then your SOL for both unlocking and jailbreaking. At least for now, still annoying since I just got my iPhone and was looking forward to a JB

To everyone asking about the unlock. No there will be no unlock for this baseband. Why would they waste a precious baseband exploit for this crap update when iPhone and iPhone OS 4 are soon coming in the next few months. Just as they are not showing any new jailbreak exploits, they will not show any other baseband exploits. If you don’t believe me read the dev team blog post it says they feel this update was mainly to try and get the dev team to show their hand for 4.0 so apple could close it but dev team said and I quote their not biting. So there will be no untethered nor will their be an unlock until iPhone OS 4.0 arrives this summer. If you updated then you deserve to be locked out. I know when I was a noob I was deathly afraid of even just syncing my iPhone to iTunes because I was unsure if it would unlock it and you guys actually go thru the entire update process without doing one minute worth of research. There are no accidental updates seeing as it takes 2 accepts to make it update and you have roughly 2 minutes to pull the cord as well. You deserve to be locked out so you will learn to do some research before messing with your $500 device.

    @Fergy,

once you’ve jailbroken, install cydia, add the repo for blacksn0w and then install it. that should provide you with an unlock (although you’ll lose it if you restart). it worked with 3.1.2, not sure if it’ll work for 3.1.3

Hey guys! we know that pwnage tool is not capable enough to jailbreak iphone 3.1.3 os but you can still unlock iphone 3.1.3 os with snowbreeze-v1.4, ultrasnow via cydia and redsnow can also jailbreak iphone 3.1.3 os.

    enjoy Jailbreaking

Sn0wbreeze is buggy, pwnagetool does jailbreak 3.1.3 for all devices except new 3GS bootrom and old 3GS already on 3.1.3 (u have to be on 3.1.2 jb and restore to custom 3.1.3 IPSW). Redsn0w can jb any 2G and 3G on 3.1.3. Rule of thumb if you want ur phone not to be buggy use only dev team tools. Geohots tools usually are OK as well but there are quite a few bugs found in his tools for certain users as well.

GREETINGS EARTHLINGS, I AM AN ELECTRONICS ENGINEER, AND OWNER OF 7 IPHONES SO FAR, MOST OF THEM WERE FLAKEY IN SOME WAY OR ANOTHER AND I SOLD THEM ALL, I CURRENTLY HAVE A KILLER 16G WHITE MODEL THAT IS A FRIGGIN FERRARI… HOWEVER.. THATS NOT THE PURPOSE OF MY POST HERE, I BELIVE THERE IS A WAY TO SOLVE THIS APPLECRAP OF UPDATING AND LOCKING PEOPLE OUT… IF I AM CORRECT THIS METHOD WOULD FIX ANY IPHONE ANYWHERE ANYTIME, THERE WOULD BE ONLY 2 DOWNSIDES TO IT IF I AM CORRECT, IT WOULD REQUIRE EQP THAT THE AVERAGE PERSON DOESNT HAVE, AND THE FIX WOULD BE PERMANTE UNTILL AN UPGRADE WAS DONE AGIAN.. THEN IT WOULD NEED TO BE REDONE, HOWEVER IT WOULD NOT BE A TETHERED FIX..IT WOULD BE UNTETHERED… I AM RESEARCHING MY IDEA, LET YOU KNOW SOON… FD

    UPDATE

IT IS POSSIBLE TO DO THIS, I HAVE SOME OF WHAT I NEED TO GET STARTED, I WILL HAVE TO ORDER OTHER EQP, WILL DO SO THIS WEEK.
IF THIS WORKS, I WILL SET UP A PROCESS TO
FIX BRICKED PHONES (upgraded to 3.1.3) and MAKE
A SMALL PRICE/CHARGE TO DO SO AND OWNER PAYS SHIPPING / INSURANCE BOTH WAYS. THIS WILL BE A COMPLETE REFLASH BACK TO PRE 3.1.3 STATUS, SO IF YOU MISTAKENLY UPGRADE IT, ITS GOING TO COST YOU AGIAN. I AM GOING TO ATTEMPT TO COMPLETLY ERASE THE ENTIRE PROGRAMMING SO THAT THE PHONES BRAIN IS EMPTY, THEN SIMPLY REFLASH IT WITH THE GOOD ROM REVISION, THIS MUST BE DONE ON A PROFESSIONAL “CPU / ROM HARDWARE PROGRAMMING WORKSTATION”, WHICH I AM GOING TO SETUP. IN THEORY THIS SHOULD WORK PERFECTLY, I WILL FIND SOME LOCAL BRICKED PHONES TO USE AS TEST SUBJECTS. UPDATE IN COUPLE WEEKS… FD

ALSO, THERE MIGHT JUST BE A QUICK AND DIRTY WAY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS FOR THOSE WHO ARE BRAVE ENOUGH TO OPEN UP THEIR PHONE, AND PUT TOGETHER A SMALL INEXPENSIVE DEVICE, I AM ALSO WORKING ON THAT ANGLE, WILL HAVE MY FIRST TEST SUBJECTS NEXT WEEK, IM THEORIZING IT MIGHT JUST BE POSSIBLE TO ZAP THE ROM WITH BURST OF CURRENT FROM SMALL BATTERY POWERED DEVICE EASILY BUILD FOR LESS THAT $10 u.s. AND THEN SIMPLY RESTORE IT WITH GOOD ROM VIA REDSNOW … BUT AT THIS POINT ITS JUST THEORY… WITH THESE THINGS YOU NEVER KNOW UNTILL YOU TRY , IT COULD BE THAT I JUST END UP GIVING SOME POOR PHONE A LOBOTMY WITH THIS METHOD..LOL
