Comcast rebrands services, new name is marginal at best

xfinitylogo

So… how do you overcome negative public perception and customer service issues that won’t seem to go away? Fix the root of the problem? No. You re-brand yourself of course! Today, Comcast announced that the company name will stay the same; however the services have been renamed to… XFINITY? Yes, XFINITY. Starting next week, Comcast will be rolling out the new name in 12 major markets. Comcast customers of Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Hartford, Augusta, Chattanooga, and San Francisco, you are now XFINITY Internet, XFINITY Cable, and/or XFINITY voice customers. XFINITY…sort of rolls off the tongue… wait, actually, no it doesn’t. Here is the corporate justification for the move: “XFINITY is about offering our customers more — more HD, more speed, more choice and more control over their services.” We would love to see Comcast improve their services and stop spending money on fighting net neutrality and changing all of the logos on their letterhead, but hey, that’s just us.

Oh yeah, and that doesn’t include my first months bill of $167 for the $65/month service that we were supposed to be getting and the installation fees that they “promised” to waive. Which includes $15 per room to “hook up” cable and “installation” fees of $35, plus some other needless fees.

We’re not even getting HD because I didn’t want to “rent” their boxes…even though they do charge us to have the cable modem.

Comcast is the only provider in my neck of the woods. I have internet and cable TV. I tried very, very hard to cancel cable TV. Called up the rep, said that I wanted to cancel. They had some deal. I told them “you just don’t understand, I don’t watch cable, I don’t care how much off you give me”. I don’t want to hear it anymore, just cancel my cable TV. They hit me with a deal that I couldn’t refuse: $5/month for cable TV for the next two years.

That’s the beauty of the Cable companies, that you won’t get with Verizon. If your special runs out, just call em up and to “cancel” and they will do their best to keep you by giving you a deal you can’t refuse. I pay 54 dollars a month for the Blast internet and regular cable. Internet is 20/8 according to speedtest.net.

Your better off keeping basic service, if you don’t have cable, they tack an extra $15 a month to your Internet access and give you reduced speeds.
I’m in the same boat as you, did I mention I hate Comcast?

Let’s improve customer service by inconveniencing all of our customers with automatic bill pay. Brilliant. What’s next – changing email addresses?

I hate comcast with a passion – their customer service is the worst ever, they’re abusive, rude, arrogant, and just plain idiots. I’d love to get uverse, but no one at ATT can ever tell me when it might be available in my chicago suburb.

Comcast recently implemented freaking “digital converter” boxes in order to receive channels 29 and higher, that you have to put on every TV you want to get those channels – effectively negating your TV remote and control of your TV’s features. They could have implemented their solution on the head end units, but no. I hate comcast. I’ll hate xfinity (stoopid name BTW).

They are doing that to free up bandwidth by killing analog transmissions, been dealing with the same crap in our area. What solution do you see doing on the head end instead?

I bet there some hidden fees in this ‘new’ company. I have Comcast for internet and their customer service is horrible. Their service was down a couple days ago, I called and got Mohamed Dirka Dirka who not only was a smart ass but needed a few more Rosetta Stone lessons.

    FAIL.

Once Verizon and AT&T start expanding their markets and truly get in the game, these bastards will finally get the competition they deserve.

Name change wont help them. Could never stand comcast. In MD your only choice was comcast if you wanted TV…and the only way around that was if you had Dish Or Directv….Tried Dish…and could never keep signal.

Comcast was assholes for tryin to Slow down the Whole FIOS expansion in the DC/Baltimore area. and it took FOREVER to get it…But i finally have it and im NEVER goin back to Comtrash..especially now that i have an alternative.

Looks to me like Comcast is doing the rebranding in areas where new competing services are starting to kick them in the butt.

I first wondered “why Chattanooga” when I saw the list of cities. I mean, Atlanta is nearby and a much bigger city. But then I remembered, since I live in Chattanooga, that here we are ALL WAITING TO SWITCH TO THE POWER COMPANY’S NEW SERVICE: http://epbfi.com/ .

Comcast spent a boatload of money trying to stop the service from starting up, all kinds of lawsuits and such, that all failed. Now the service just started and people are running from Comcast as fast as they can. I can’t wait for EPB’s fiber service to be available at my house, so I can switch too. (Good service and cheaper then Comcast too!)

This is Comcast’s way of fighting competition. And a rather lame effort at that.

Older people I know, I mean senior citizens, when asked about the new service used to say they’ll stick with Comcast because they know Comcast. (You know older folks can sometimes be skittish about anything “new”.) But the name change might be enough to make them uneasy. Comcast might be shooting themselves in the foot on this one, in more ways than one.

thank you for letting me know about that! I live in Chattanooga too and wrote a long post on the previous page of comments about my extreme hatred for Comcast. I was also wondering why Comcast was changing the name in Chatt too because I thought they still had a monopoly on cable service.

By more, did they mean more customer abuse, even more crappier service, and even more astronomical fees?
