Apple announces the iPad, changes the course of history

Today at 10:00AM PST, hundreds of thousands of eyes were glued to computer screens as Steve Jobs made one of the most anticipated announcements in Apple history: the iPad. Some might giggle or scoff at the name, but that’s where the snark stops. The hardware and software had event attendees up on their feet applauding. Before we get into a deep run-down of the device, here are some specs you need to know right off the bat (we’ll continue updating these if there are move developments):
- 0.5″ thick and 1.5lbs light
- 9.7″ IPS display, capacitive multitouch touchscreen
- Built-in accelerometer, mic, 30-pin connector, 802.11n Wi-Fi, compass, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
- 10 hours of battery life and one month standby time!
- 1GHz Apple A4 processor
- 16GB, 32GB and 64GB Flash storage
On top of all this, the iPad will run the applications you already have for the iPhone. It can appear on the screen one of two ways: pixel for pixel accuracy in a black box or pixel double it and run the application in full screen. Typing on the iPad was made to look like a breeze with a large software keyboard that pops up on the screen when typing is required. That ought to give you all a taste of things to come as the event is still very much in progress, so we’ll get back to you with more details very soon!

when did boy genius become an apple fanboy site?
Seriously, where has all the legitimate discussion gone? These comments are filled with spam and nonsense about how multitouch is the greatest thing ever. Yes it is cool and im not a hater but what benefit does this bring to anyone who currently owns a laptop? and if you dont then what about when you want to import cd’s? will it even support an external drive? They have had almost identical machines in hospitals for the past 5+ years, with little to no attention paid to them, but lo and behold let Apple throw a lowercase “i” in front of it and mention all the “amazing” apps it can run and everyone runs out to buy “the device that will change history”, as BGR so eloquently put it. Maybe if we didnt suck the teet of Apple so hard we would get some decent tech, but im not gonna hold my breath.
Apple in all of it’s usual glory faked the video of NY Times display showing fake video in place of flash video. The Apple website took down the fake after a complaint to the FDIC started by a graphic designer.
What else can you expect from a company known for stealing everything from it’s name to the “familiar” Apple GUI. The Apple motto “greed is good.”

Nek, ol’ buddy. This is what happens when you get your computing history off the playground. I won’t even Google it for you, just do some actual reading on something than the comments section and find out how Apple paid Xerox… But don’t let truth get in the way of your hate.
Nek: you might consider backtracking to see where you left your brain before someone runs over it
The Ipad is a joke, it’s a technological step backwards. I might respect the device if Apple positioned it as an App Running media player but they’re actually pitching it as a tablet pc. No Multitasking, no USB, no Card Ports, No Flash, No Camera, definitely not a computer. It’s just an overpriced oversized ipod touch. Do yourself a favor and buy a high end netbook and with the couple hundred dollars you’ll save you can buy enough drugs to convince you that the Ipad is a tablet pc.
Maybe he meant the Lenovo X200 Tablet.
