Evidence of Zune Phone uncovered in latest Zune software?

zunephone-inf

With Mobile World Congress right around the corner, the Zune Phone rumors are gathering steam with more than one blog “confirming” the existence of these Project Pink phones. The latest confirmation was uncovered in the most recent Zune software update (4.2.202.0) which was rolled out as part of a scheduled maintenance today. Inside of the Zune.inf file, which is used to associate hardware devices with the Zune driver, is code that identifies a device described as a “Phone” with a vendor ID that is locked to Microsoft and three different product IDs that could correspond to three different phone models. Admittedly, this could be an indication of future Zune integration into Windows Mobile 7 but the fact that this emerged just prior to MWC with three specific hardware references is a bit compelling, no?

I hope this is true and that the device is available soon. We need to get rid of this iPhone.

lol. I feel you, totally, but there’s no ‘getting rid’ of iPhone. Hate it or love it, anything you say about it only validates it more.
I don’t get the attitude of wishing to see something fail. As much as I dislike Apple (but really more because of the crazed fanboys, they’re the ones that ruin a lot of it for a lot of people), I don’t want to see their junk fail. Wishing for that means you’re admitting everything else sucks. Everything does NOT suck. There’s actually a lot of great alternatives, but people get so stuck on comparing to Apple that they fail to see what good stuff we all have to choose from right now.

This makes my decision to go with either Google services (Docs, Gmail, Calendar, Talk, Chat, Android, Chrome, Chrome OS, Wave) or Microsoft (Windows 7, Mobile 7, Xbox Live, Zune, Media Center, Server, Exchange, Office) even more confusing. Microsoft would certainly be the more expensive option (though cheaper than Apple), but the one with the best entertainment options. Any suggestions?

Have you ever used one? It may be the best multimedia device out there. I was skeptical too until I used one.

The Zune HD is a great product, too bad it is not marketed properly. Also, Microsoft does not work together smoothly. Some of the divisions of Microsoft should work as ONE department…Zune, Windows Mobile, Media Center, Media-Room, and Xbox. Combining entity’s would save resources and bring more streamlined, cutting edge products..

Hey M$, it is called team work. The Zune HD could be running WinMo 7 (when available) and would be one hell of a device. All of our gadgetry needs to be on ONE DEVICE.. Apple gets it… Ballmer is a large, sweaty, idiot.

I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen, but personally I’d rather just have Zune integration with WinMo 7. Love my 80gb Zune, the Zune software/marketplace, but I don’t know how well a Zune phone would sell. WinMo, on the other hand, would still sell a lot even though quite a few don’t like it.

Does MS have an App Store for the Zune? That is what makes the iphone succesful and why Andriod will surpass Apple’s walled garden eventually. Maybe they do I have never heard of it.
