HTC Obsession to launch on AT&T and T-Mobile as the Diamond3?
Windows Mobile 7 may be hitting AT&T and T-Mobile in the form of the HTC Diamond3, previously known as the Obsession. The Diamond3 will reportedly sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor, GSM/HSDPA connectivity, 3.7 inch capacitive AMOLED display with multi-touch, 5 megapixel camera with flash and HD video recording, 512MB RAM/512MB ROM, 4GB of internal storage, microSD expansion (up to 32GB) and a 1230mAh battery. The Obsession/Diamond3 is also going to be a GSM only device, no CDMA counterpart is in the works as sales of the last CDMA Diamond were sluggish. With HTC and LG rumored to be prepping Windows Mobile handsets for a mid-year launch, what are the odds that Windows Mobile 7 will be unveiled at MWC 2010?

I’m currently using HD2 with the same exact battery but larger screen. the battery performs better than what I expected. I can use it for the whole day from 6 AM to 9 PM. For sure better juice than my 3GS for the same usage patterns.

I saw your comments above and was thinking – Does anyone know why an OS has to be tied to hardware so tightly? I mean…the phone is beautiful – why not release it with options to boot to Android or WM6/6.5/7 or whatever other OS you might want? Is my wondering that just plain stupid? Seems like in a world where storage is cheap, that having that option would just…well…rock. You could satisfy the enterprise guys with WM, the “rebels” with Android, the “tweens” with Blur (or some special HTC skinned version of WinMo like they did with the Touch Diamond – and still do, I think), and truly have something for everyone!
Thats a good idea.. HTC might want to look into it.. Id pay extra to be able to switch between android and wm for work and play..
My HTC Mogul was a very easy android port and was much more stable than the newer HTC phones. I was using Android on the weekends before the g1 even launched. Finally have a semi-stable version on my Touch Pro, but its not completely usable. It does turn heads to have Eclair running on a WM phone.
Looks pretty good! However, if it doesn’t have a physical keyboard, that will be a deal breaker for me.
i saw a video showing an hd2 vs a nexus one in web browsing speed on pocketnow.com and the amoled screen of the nexus one was brilliant. thats the only reason I’m considering the obsession of the hd2
over* the hd2
exactly why I’m hesitant on pulling the trigger on the hd2 just yet
The main specs of the Apollo device is just uber-amazing. CPU: Qualcomm QSD8650; 1.3GHz, Memory (RAM/ROM): 1GB/1GB, Screen Resolution: WXGA 1280 x 720 px, Camera: 10-megapixel with flash and autofocus; HD 720p video@ 30fps. Insane details: http://bit.ly/htc-obsession-details
Nice, so the HD2 will be obsolete, and I bet no upgrade to WM7.
HTC always does this crap to its users.
