Motorola gives Korea a little Android love with MOTOROI

While we’re busy sitting here trying to figure out how this new phone is supposed to be pronounced, South Koreans are rejoicing that this Android device has become official there. We’ve all seen this handset before as the Motorola XT701 for China, but now we know that Korea will have it through SK Telekom. The device is running Android 2.0 and supports Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps and Google Talk. Basically, anything and everything Google will be delivered on this handset for the full Android experience. Shutterbugs and weekend videographers will be happy to know the MOTOROI packs an 8 megapixel sensor camera with Xenon flash, and has a 720p HD camcorder. Add to that support for up to 32GB of storage, a 3.7″ WVGA screen, HDMI capabilities, TV out and built in radio and it looks like Korea’s first Android device is a formidable one.

The bump makes a bit of sense with the haptic media keys….

Shame though to see so much inconsistency with the 4 lower haptic key layout…

Overall I like this better than the Droid…

I really like it. Those specs are sick and it isn’t half bad looking, either. Even with the hump, it’s better looking than 80% of the phones on the market.

I think its better than the Droid, funny how Motorola is catering to S. Korea. I believe its to compete with the advanced handsets they have there. Oh, I guess the Iphone has presence there too.

      @ Jonathan,

If by presence you mean 25% share of the smartphone market in it’s first quarter of sales, then yes.

ironic isn’t it… you’d think Moto – being a U.S. company – would push it’s latest and greatest in the U.S….. just goes to show how messed up our wireless industry is and how the focking carriers run the show… hopefully Google with the Nexus helps change this carrier dominance and hopefully Apple too when AT$T contract expires…

What processor is it running? I skimmed thru the long article about the phone at the link and didn’t see it mentioned, unless I missed it. Is it a secret?

“Pinch to zoom in and out lets you enlarge or reduce the size of web pages with ease,” per press release. Of course we probably won’t be seeing this feature if/when it comes to the states. :(

Whats with you guys having somethign against Motoblur? 90% of you probably think all it is is widgets for social networking.. blur makes android work and look soo much better… use it and get educated before you jump on the “I hate blur” bandwagon.

I wanted a smartphone for quite a long time and finally I got a Milestone and I love it but the battery is defficient and I really miss not having to open the phone to have physical keyboard.

The world needs more qwerty phones with better power saving features and less demanding OSs.

    Good for moto anyway.

It seems likely that the majority of the MOTOROI’s specifications will make it over to the US, including the 8-megapixel camera, 720p HD video recording, 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen and high-speed GSM connectivity. However we expect Motorola to strip out the T-DMB digital TV tuner that the Korean market will enjoy
