Motorola Calgary / DROID Devour gets shot up in silver, new info
Motorola making a device in more than one color? You don’t say… One of our connects sent us the above photo of the Motorola Calgary / DROID Devour / Whatever, and confirmed the specifications we posted a few months back. We also received some more feedback on the device — hit the jump for the goodies!
We’re told the keyboard was “nice” and the phone itself was “easier to use” compared to the Motorola DROID. Obviously that’s personal opinion, and maybe the BLUR OS simplifies things for some people, but the trackpad apparently is killer as a navigational input device. Oh? The device has Wi-Fi, GPS, a 1420mAh battery, but unfortunately no SIM card slot as it is not a global device. Whether the unit will come in multiple colors or not is not confirmed as these are still non-final units, we’re told, but we’d probably bet on it being available in black as well as silver. If only they kept that RAZR-keyboard…

Tell me about it. Where’s the comment moderation at BGR? All the posts from the last few days are littered with 10-30 comments of blatant insults and tirades of anyone that disagrees with these guys. looking how the droid became and it’s name now being synonymous to the phone november 2009. It’s pissing, especially when you know someone had bought this and now trapped on a 2 year contract. And guess what Nexus one will arrive anytime soon.

If you want the Eris, that has nothing to do with Motorola. The Eris is made by HTC.

Take a look at the HTC Hero on Sprint. The lowest fees for national voice & 3G data coverage and the Eris is basically a repackaged Hero…
Thax! I have looked Sprint Hero but I always thought that Verizon ’s customization of HTC’s Eris looks better than Sprint. Well, I am not going to look at the shell but inside the screen if I am using it so I’ll wait for that tech show on next week and decide. Thanks for the data plan thing, I never knew Sprint was that good.

You need to calm your ass down. The new Moto Droid phone will be badass and you can upload all your pornos right on it and watch it. That OS is amazing and it was made for people like me (and maybe you) so stop trash talking and just buy the damn phone. Ain’t no one tryin’ to hold you down, girl. All of my Motorola phones have been great. I currently have a w385 and it is a tank. I can also confirm that the devour is quite sturdy as well.
i will definitely be looking into this phone as well as the chocolate touch and pixi plus for my upgrade

The Nexus One not only underperforms the Droid in terms of functionality, but it is locked to T-Mobile, which is a ball and chain on its own. T-Mobile has its place, but it does not have the coverage or subscribers that Verizon has, and Verizon customers are largely not going to want to throw away their coverage for a phone that does less than another phone that’s already available to them. The Nexus One doesn’t bring anything to the table that the Droid doesn’t, and it loses the hard QWERTY, rendering it useless as an emulator. There would be no reason to switch to get the Nexus One, making it a hard fail for Verizon customers.

Underperforms the Droid? I hope you’re not serious. The only thing the Nexus One lacks that the Droid has is a crappy physical keyboard. If you absolutely MUST have a physical keyboard, no matter how bad it is, you can get the Droid. But since I’ve heard so many people say they rather just use the Droid’s virtual keyboard, I’d say the Nexus One isn’t missing much.

Everything you said in your comment was correct, except this. 7.2Mbps (AT&T) and 21Mbps (T-Mobile) isn’t here yet, either. Verizon will be rolling out LTE as AT&T and T-Mobile are updating their 3G. AT&T will follow with LTE a year later and T-Mobile doesn’t even have any plans for 4G; though I suppose with 21Mbps 3G, you don’t really need it.
Except that LTE phones are useless at this point and totally irrelevant when someone is going to buy a phone in the next six months.
I have a Droid and there is nothing that the Nexus One can do that the Droid could not do. Sure 2.1 can do stuff that 2.0.1 can not do but seeing as that right now and even when the passion hits, the Droid/Passion combo is Verizon’s Android power house and both are google branded so they should both be getting 2.1.
Even the Eris will be getting the 2.1 sense update and I used my friends Hero and it was plenty fast enough for just about anything I needed to do. The Devour will be left behind if Moto is going to leave Motoblur at 1.5 but other than that you really cant go wrong with most of the current android phones.
