Download a beta version of Swype for Android
Windows Mobile fans should be familiar with Swype, the popular and new input method that graces the Samsung Omnia II. When using Swype, you abandon the traditional method of hunt and peck and use a more natural swiping motion, running your fingers fluidly over the letters on the keyboard while the software predicts the correct word. The company behind Swype is developing an Android version which will be marketed to carriers and device manufacturers with the hope of integrating this novel keyboard into upcoming Android devices. But, if you have a WVGA Android device (read: Motorola DROID or Nexus One) and want to get a sneak peek of Swype, you can download a leaked beta version of the keyboard from DROIDMUFF.IN. I didn’t think I would like it at first, but I’m getting used to it.
Total let down for me. I’m fairly confident I can type faster on the Droid on either keyboard (physical, or virtual in landscape or portrait) than any of you are typing with Swype. I had to go back to the Droid keyboard within 20 minutes, because it was just too slow (for me).
Wish it was better, as I was really looking forward to this.
Try using it for more then 20 minutes… You can go as fast as you want on it, there’s no lag.
This is the one feature on the Omnia 2 I was interested in trying out. I’m glad it came to the Droid I like it so far wish it had the haptic feedback & the option for audible sound but otherwise I like it.

Wow… more than half the world texts while driving.. and i do it to… its never caused me any problems.. drunk driving that one time almost got me caught though… if he does crash his car while texting i hope its straight into the front of yours buddy
Tried it for the day. Not for me, for sure. Type way faster on standard keyboard & better keyboard app. Too gimmicky for me….
pretty neat, but seems a bit unnecessary if you’re fast on the virtual keyboard to begin with…a bit gimmicky
I’m using SlideIT which is similar. I find SlideIT better than Swype because SlideIT has multi-language support. Also SlideIT is a little bit faster.

swype is not that bad I am using it right now and it is working just fine on my droid
I plan on using only Swype. I sucked on the iPhone keyboard and I’m no better on the Droid (forget about the useless physical kb). I thought it was going to take a while to get use to but it’s very accurate. Nice job.
@WJS… useless physical keyboard? You must have Homer Simpson hands. I can downright fly on the physical keyboard on the Droid without making mistakes.
This keyboard is amazing anyone competent should be able to fly using this thing. Im so happy droid and android getting some love. Viva la android.
I installed on my g1 it says the screen size is not supported by swype???

Tried it for a while. It seems a little difficult to use. Went back to the stock keyboard. Compared speed in portrait, landscape and swype. Hands down, landscape virtual keyboard with auto correct is the best option. Maybe I could get used to it but it just seems a little odd to me.
i just got the droid eris and it says the screen size is not supported by swype??? i saw where one person said he had to

Hi everyone,
We would like to provide an update regarding the unauthorized distribution of our Swype software for the Android platform. We realize that many sites are now distributing this software and several are providing installation instructions.
We are glad that you like Swype, but we did not release or leak it for distribution and do not support any downloadable versions . More specifically, any current versions of the Swype software for the Android platform were distributed to business partners or journalists and were done so under Non-Disclosure Agreements or a EULA, and with a time-out feature.
One might ask why we don’t just release it ourselves and save everyone the hassle? The reason is that we have spent seven years building Swype and we want to try to make a living selling our software. Our current business model is OEM licensing. We do plan to get to direct-to-consumer distribution but it is a different sort of business with unique challenges and thus it is hard to say when.
So far we have released Swype on the Samsung Omnia II on the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform and we have a number of Android device launches as well as some additional mobile OS launches coming up soon. Because our partners are highly sensitive about their product releases we really cannot say anything further.

I have swype for my droid. Its different but it looks like they could be onto something. Once you get used to it its a whole lot faster than the traditional android soft keyboard. Im for it
