DirecTV to launch 3D-HD channel in 2010

DirecTV 3D

You know what was so 2009? Television in HD. You know what is so 2010? Television in HD and 3D. HD Guru is reporting that DirecTV is planning to launch an all HD and 3D channel in 2010; with an announcement forthcoming at this years CES show in Las Vegas. The new service will be made possible by a new DirecTV satellite being shot into orbit sometime in the very near future, a satellite slated to be fully operational by March of 2010. The channel will play a variety of movies and sports all conforming to the latest 3D standard. Now before we all get too excited, the new service will work with your current DirecTV HD box, thanks to a firmware update, but you will have to purchase yourself a new 3D compatible HD TV — many of which are to be announced at CES this year. Will 3D be the new buzz word of the 2010 television market? We will see.

that sounds pretty cool! the theaters/movie companies were pushing 3d because home theaters were just as great with audio and hd tv. now, directv is going 3d!? interested on what the theaters/movie companies are going to do next to keep us going to the movies!!!

eh dont see this going anywhere. 3D seems too gimmicky and since there’s and extra step to put on glasses people will get too lazy to do so.

I can’t stand 3D movies, and now I have 3D tv to “look forward to”. Ugh. I think my eyes aren’t the standard width or something because the effects always suck for me.

@ EraserXIV – The 3D TV’s wont require glasses. Otherwise you would be able to watch it on your exsisting TV. I heard about these TV’s at last year CES

    MIKE says:

If you have an HDTV that is 2-D capable it should be backwards compatible.

If you are in market to get new HDTV and you are already going to get a top on the line model then it isn’t much more to get a 3-d capable TV but if getting more affordable model may want to wait until cost go down as they haev with HD and again if you get a nice HD set that has 2-D you can get the 2 dimension that will better than nothing but obviously not same desired and intended effect
