LG LS680 with Android pops up on Sprint’s system

Shortly after the rumors surrounding the Sprint and LG event at CES just days away, we were greeted with this little screen shot in our inbox this morning. It looks like Sprint will be getting a LG Android handset pretty soon (though we’re not ruling out the possibility of a WiMax WinMo phone being announced there, too). We’re not sure what the LS680 is just yet, but given the OS we know that it will have a large touchscreen and possibly a QWERTY keyboard as LG likes to do with its LX series. Details are scant for now but we’ll be sure to give you guys all the goods as soon as it comes our way.

Thanks, Javy!

3.7″ and Snapdragon is all I need to know about this phone. 3.2″ and under isn’t cutting it.

You should return it, because you are not suppose to buy a phone with in a 2 weeks time period of CES, just because of the possibilities

I’m sure that has nothing to do with the fact that Apple is a master at marketing and advertising. The vast majority of buyers aren’t techies. They see something flashy and pretty on the teevee and sure enough….baaaaaaa….to the store they go with wallets open regardless of the lack of common functionality or a decent 3g network. It’s the same reason movies like Transformers 2 will always break records. People love flashy mediocrity as long as it’s the “cool awesome must-have new thing omgzorz!”

Didn’t you bash Blackberrys before? Or was it just Verizon BBs?

        “…14 different models on 4 wireless carriers…”

Actually Android is on 3 US carriers. And there are currently 8 Android phones amongst the 3 carriers.

I think I just didn’t get the whole hype over them. And really, I still don’t see the hype that some people get over them. However, they do everything they are supposed to do… and very well at that. Communication whether it be email, text, IM, or whatever social networking site is more important than a huge screen and a billion apps to me. Battery life is a plus too… something that both the iphone and any android phone just don’t do well.

Life is all about choices. Iphone has its place in the marketplace and Android has one, also. Not every one wants to drive the same vehicle. I would compare this to a Lexus owner bashing someone for buying a BMW. Why do you care so much?

I would love for this device to sport a full qwerty worth a damn. I’d rather not use a hardware keyboard at all if it’s a pos like the pre. LG devices generally have decent build quality. Also, please use a snapdragon or cortex processor and have a 3.5 mil headset jack. Ship with android 2.0 and I’m sold. This is huge for sprint. The hero, pre, and tp2 are already getting outspecced and outdated.

“It is not as neatly done as on the iPhone. Google has not been very good to entice customers to actually buy products. On Android nobody is making significant revenue,” Rochefort said.

Games for iPhone generated 13 percent of Gameloft’s revenue in the last quarter. “We are selling 400 times more games on iPhone than on Android,” Rochefort said. (Reporting by Tarmo Virki; Editing by Dan Lalor)

Android has not hit ‘Critical Mass’ yet, however I suspect they will have no problem doing so in 2010. There is no question that Android based phones will overtake iPhones in market share by the end of this year, especially if Apple keeps itself tethered to ATT. If I am not mistaken Android based phones already can claim over 25,000 application and growing exponentially. HTC, Samsung, Motorola, LG etc are all converting to Android and doing so with pizzasz. In hardware they have already outclassed the iPhone in technology. The Samsung Moment uses a AM OLED screen giving it crisper screen and longer battery life. The HTC Hero has a 5MP camera, The new LG will purports to be a Wimax (4G) compatible. The Motorola Droid, has a faster processor and better camera. Each of these can hold themselves against the iPhone and in most cases do more. 2010 will bring in 4G, however my question is how in God’s great name does Apple intend to introduce a 4G phone when we all know ATT will not have a 4G platform until 2012 to 2013? Sprint already has a 4G platform and a 3G platform that is twice the size of ATT’s, Verizon will have a 4G platform in 2011. IMHO 2010 will be the year that Apple will begin to see its iPhone challenged in ways it has never seen since its introduction unless they are sagacious enough to untether themselves from ATT.

It is amazing to read all the strong support for IPhones and DROID phones. Since everybody has different style and different taste, DOEs IT REALLY matter!?!?!?! If a phone meets or exceeds your needs why bother if one is better or not. The last time I checked……If a Verizon pnone called an ATT or Sprint phone………..it would ring!!!!! Life
