Apple tablet announcement coming January 26th?
Right as we were whispering about the 7 inch display of the Apple tablet, the Apple tablet rumors simultaneously exploded. The Financial Times reported that Apple has reserved Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco for several days in late January. A source reportedly claims that Apple will use the venue to make a big product announcement on January 26th. The New York Times also chimed in with several rumors whose sources were current and former Apple employees. The NYT claims that since Apple has been working on the tablet for some time now, technology derived from the product was used in other devices and the development of tablet continued to progress, no doubt helped along by the re-hiring of Michael Tchao who worked on the ill-fated Apple Newton. According to a senior Apple employee, the current tablet has hit the sweet spot and Steve Jobs “is extremely happy with the new tablet”. Adding mystery and intrigue to the rumor, another Apple employee, recently departed from the company, says “you will be very surprised how you interact with the new tablet”. This, of course, has thrown the Apple fanbase into a frenzy with every past patent being scrutinized for some clue into this novel control mechanism. We have seen some wild patents come out of the Apple camp, the head-tracking eyewear and 3-D interactive display come first and foremost to mind, and some not-so-wild patents including a multitude of patents covering multi-touch and gesture-based controls. We will have to wait for the next leaky faucet until January 26th to discover what wild and crazy product Apple has designed.

even as an avid iphone user and a macbook owner, i don’t have much interest in this so-called “tablet”… at least not at the moment…
i was hoping the next bit of apple news would be a high res iphone with 21Mbps HSPA + and capable of running on the 1700 AWS band….
hmmm…the real question is ATT or VZW or both for data services….I bet on Verizon….
You may be right with VZW…it will open the door for Apple to court a new carrier before giving up the iPhone!

Ryan, from what you post here it looks as though Apple must pay you for this. Superior products? I haven’t owned an Apple product that didn’t die within a year. Superior customer satisfaction? I was really satisfied when I got my iPod back after 3 weeks and it still didn’t work right.
Oh, well sorry for your mishap, I have 4 ipods and an iphone and a macbook and ive never had any problems. so in my opinion, apple does have superior products
Having had apple products since the Apple IIe and presently have a Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, and Mac Mini as well as 2 Apple TV’s, 3 Ipods. I have only repaired one item since the mid 80’s. That was the battery in an Ipod after 2 years.
I too have had an IBook, Powermac G4, a MacBook Pro, an iMac, AppleTV, two iPhones an Airport extreme and 4 or 5 ipods. I have been extremely happy with Apple’s products and their quality.
I did have a couple things go wrong with batteries and chargers, but Apple quickly remedied the problems for me without hassle.

Ahh yes, the bigger 7incher ver. of the iPhone. I kind of remember the promisng crunchpad which turns out to be the joojoo tablet. What will happen now? JooJoo Tablet doomed by Apple tablet?
Not a shabby way to start the year, but not too ‘phenomenal’ unlike the unveiling of iPod on 2001.

I have to wonder if you buy your Apple products from some illegal immigrant alley-vendor or if you are terminally unlucky. I have been using Apple tech for almost 20 years with minimal complaint. Or does the fact that you use “wax” in your monicker indicate your true objective…

I’m interested in just where this Tablet is going to fit into the market. Is there a sufficient consumer gap for such a product??
If it’s an iPhone/Netbook hybrid then I won’t be getting one as I own both. (8 inch widescreen prototype Atom 1.8ghz powered Acer netbook)
what else can it be but a beefed up media player designed to compete with Archos, Acer, Sony etc

On the smartphone side of the business, if Apple does once again report good numbers, it’ll be one of the few in that industry. Despite constant attempts by rival handset makers to produce the “iPhone killer,” Apple’s main competitors in the smartphone world have struggled during the most recent quarter–Nokia, Palm, and Research In Motion each posting disappointing results.
Piper Jaffray is estimating that Apple sold 7.5 million iPhones. Munster said inventory checks showed that demand for the iPhone 3GS is “outstripping supply,” which means that iPhone sales for the next several quarters should be fairly steady. We should also get an update on the number of countries and carriers that have the latest iPhone model. Apple had said in July that it was supposed to be in 80 countries by the end of the summer.
