HTC DROID Eris getting OS upgrade in Q1 2010
We’ve received word that the HTC DROID Eris on Verizon Wireless will definitely be getting an OS upgrade sometime in Q1. We haven’t been told exactly what OS version it will be (Android 1.6, 2.0, 2.1), just that Google Maps Navigation will be included.

Battery life bump is all this things needs and it will be flawless.
Well it runs really slow, so I think it needs a bit more than that. Yes the battery life IS THE WORST EVER, but the browser is slow as molasses and the accelerometer takes forever. I don’t know if I’ll be able to wait for the upgrade.
if this is going to get 2.1 does that mean the droid will too?
Yes, but the droid is suppose to get it in the comming weeks
no. 2.1 is different that what the droid is supposed to get. droid is getting a minor bump to presumably 2.0.1 to fix some of the bugs and then another in january. both the december and january are maintence releases for bugs, similar to what happened for the storm1 and tour.
Have a Droid and getting the FREE Eris today. This is good News!
About time! Love this phone but its slow and MMS doesn’t work anymore. A lot of bugs need to be fixed. Come on with the update!!!
This is the best non-pushed phone by any carrier. My wife got one and told me we can’t have the same phone, so I’m waiting for Jan/Feb for the elusive PRE.

Will phones purchased before the upgrade is released be upgradable to include Google maps? Sorry for the ignorance of the question. I am on the fence about which to purchase and not tech. savvy. I appreciate it.
As long as the update makes the operating system 1.6 or higher then Google Maps Navigation will be available. Regular Google maps is already available for the Eris. I would imagine that this update/upgrade will be the same as the Hero 2.1 that we have been seeing lately.
Trey Rey, yeah anyone purchased now or when the Eris first came out would be upgradable. Most likely this upgrade will be downloadable.
Would this OS upgrade really be 1.6? Seems kinda pointless with the leaked rom of 2.1 (I think 2.1 really just means 2.0+sense) having Sense and other reports that HTC was just going to 2.0.

What is the diff btwn 2.0 and 2.1 as it applies to the eris?
Google nav is also the “car home” app for you droid users. And “car home” is a 2.0 app it seems like so it seems highly unlikely it’ll be 1.6

The phone’s battery gets better as you charge and discharge it. Make sure you are using a task killer for applications you aren’t using and enjoy your Eris! I had an iPhone for 3 years and am a lot happier with this little phone. I will eventually upgrade to a Nexus One. But for now, I’m enjoying the user interface.

i dont have problems with my battery life check and make sure your gps is turned off when not using it that will drain the battery fast
My HTC droid runs slow as hell when texting and the key input freezes at times and sends 20 of the same messages. Pretty lame…..
Well its the end of April and no upgrade yet the first quarter is over this week , I see the new Incredible has the new software build Wonder how long we have to wait for the 2.X upgrade for our Eris phones
Any one heard any thing new , I had to replace my first Eris it stopped working in Feb I had no out going audio on any calls , it was replaced with a refurb so far no issues. Just waiting for my upgrade I could have used the google nav on my last two trips
I’m really ticked off that they haven’t pushed out an update. I kinda doubt they ever will now.
