AT&T makes it official: Half off BlackBerry smartphones starting today

blackberry-bold-9700-4

We announced two days ago that AT&T was going to do something a little special for the holidays – taking 50% off BlackBerry smartphones. Starting today, you can head into an AT&T retail store or hop online and grab a BlackBerry of your choice, the BlackBerry 9700 included, for half of what you’d normally have to shell out any other time of year. We don’t need to tell you that this requires a two year agreement and there’s still a mail-in-rebate, but we just did. Just in case. We’re not sure how long this offer will last, but you can bet it will only be for a limited time. And before we forget, the Samsung Solstice will be free with a new contract and all that jazz.

Thanks, J!

      Hey Eric,

I have the Pre and think it is an OK device. I came from a long line of Windows Mobile and think the ease of use for the Pre is exceptional, but the lack of integration of deep level applications really hurts it.

I think that in a few (months? years?) when WebOS really has time to flourish, it will be stellar, but for now, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are willing to concede a few things.

You people all seem very nice and well educated. But others seem to be taint lickers and ankle grabbers. The Verizon network is superior to ATT. ATT has better devices. GSM/CDMA is a personal pref. For now, the best selling device is the iPhone. Second is RIM products. No go buy something and tell us what you love about it. Last!

100$ after rebate for a new Blackberry 9700? Or 350$ outright? Sign me up. I don’t care if you love or hate AT&T, but that is not a deal to turn your nose up at!

Thanks BGR! I picked up a Bold 9000(like the wider keyboard) for $50 after the rebate and upgraded two other lines saving some serious coin.
I never would have known about the sale if not for you website!
AT&T does a lousy job of advertising their sales.
    Thanks again!

They could offer BlackBerries for free, it does not matter. We all know that the only reason anyone is on AT&T is for the iPhone or they have no other choice in carrier. Over priced plans and phones, so-so coverage and terrible customer service makes you wonder how they are even in Business still. Oh wait, of course, the iPhone. If they did not have the Jesus Phone, they would have been long gone.

Will AT&T honor this new price on a 9700 I just purchased last week?

I just checked with the store where I purchased the 9700- the AT&T rep said that I could return the phone, pay the $35 restocking fee and then receive the phone for the sale price. I told them what they could do with that deal and they changed their tune, saying I could come in and they’d honor the sale price.

Sort of ridiculous that less than a week after I purchased the phone, they’d tell me I’d need to pay a restocking fee to gain the sale price. At least they will honor it.

Of course, RIMM continues to do this and BOGO (Buy One/Get One) programs to artificially prop up what otherwise would be sagging “sales” of BlackBerry phones against the iPhone. And just why does RIMM need to do this? How else can they sell phones with an outdated operating system and interface, poor Web browsers and precious few Apps?

Like Bryan above said, if you’re eligible for an upgrade and are open to a 2-year contract, you can get the 9700 for 49.99 after rebate. Got mine today!

The promotion ends after December 25th. Early upgrades count and as far as getting it cheaper it depends on if you have a business account and if your number has a good amount of income to get extra $50 or $100 instantly.

Also if you purchased the Bold within 30 days ago, YES, you can return it and get it for the cheaper price.. we just hate when you do that.

Inside info.. I work for AT&T.

RIMM has phones for all carriers so if they suck so bad why are they the top phones for the carriers that have them? For those that could have paid less for an iPhone but really need a device that does work, ala Blackberry, I think it’s a deal! iPhones are cool, Android is cool, but really I need something that works with me and I Don’t need to show everyone that I’m the bandwagon by owning an iPhone. Guess I was raised crazy!
