Apple’s Black Friday: online sales way up, retail Mac sales down
We gave you a glimpse of Apple’s Black Friday deals a bit early this year, and now, Piper Jaffray Apple-lover analyst Gene Munster has chimed in with some numbers to let us know exactly how the iVendor did. The world’s favorite iPod maker saw online sales increase by a staggering 39% this Black Friday — compare with this years average of 11% growth in online sales — which was driven by a mere 2% boost in web traffic. That is just about where the good news ends however, as G-Mizzle states that Apple Stores were selling, “8.3 Macs per hour, down from 13 Macs per hour last year” on Black Friday. Now, Munster uses an extremely scientific formula, one the consists of visiting three Apple Stores and counting how many Mac’s they are selling per hour, and while this formula is in all likelihood potentially flawed, it does show a decline in year-over-year sales as the economy continues to slump — note that the increase in Apple Store locations was not taken into account by this “formula.” Even with this decree Munster still thinks Apple will hit its Wall Street predicted December number. True, however he’s not strictly comparing one point in time, but sales this year compared to last. Even if some of his methods were flawed to begin with, the trends generated from his report are still valid.
The general idea still probably stands; retail sales were down, online sales were up. The numbers aren’t too important.
People are more interested in iPods!!!
I really wish websites such as this one would stop reporting on sales numbers coming from such flawed methods, for cryin’ out loud. This one is about as ridiculous as the one saying the Droid sold 250k because of the # of downloads *one* app in the Market had. Numbers like this don’t mean ANYTHING because they are inherently flawed. Irresponsible journalism for $100, Alex!
Who’d want a Mac anyway now that Windows 7 is here. A Windows 7 PC does far, far more and at about 2/3rds the price of an equivalent Mac.
On-lione sales are up. This is not surprising. People are buying from CrApple and not what they are making. Songs are OTHER people’s creativity. ‘Nuff said.

Damn man why take shit so personal. Are you that much of an Apple fan? If thats the case your the fucking loser. Fucking crybaby. Boooo hoooo someone talked bad about Apple.
There’s no validity to the “brick and mortar” sales “observations.” You can’t even generalize from last year to this year in a localized area, with an n=3, let alone then extrapolate for the entire country.
It becomes even more irritating with Morgan Stanley analyst Kathryn Huberty saying Apple sales were “strong,” without citing any evidence. Anecdotally , she adds, traditional resellers like Best Buy “also saw solid demand.”
The definition of anecdotal, by the way, is “Based on casual observations or indications rather than rigorous or scientific analysis.”
This is what passes for financial analysis and report? Why on earth would we believe any other cited figures in this “article”?
The scariest part of this whole story — and why we posted/poked fun at it — is that this report is being cited by market analysts and it has actually caused Apple’s stock price to dip a bit today.

Having to use both the Windows and Apple OS, all I can say is I still prefer the Mac OS. We don’t have to worry about viruses( have had Imac for 2 1/2 years with no anti-virus). Crashes are extremely rare and updates are simply flawless and less frequent than Windows. Imho, windows has been trying to emulate the Mac that the new Windows OS is much more stable and Mac like. I do most of home stuff on the Mac while I still bring my upgraded Windows 7 laptop whenever I travel. I like both now, but if you ask me which OS do I prefer? Definitely the Mac. Yes its pricier, but we all get what we pay for.
maybe if they had something better than a measly $100 off their top models the sales might have been better. $100 off a $1200 laptop is nice… $100 off a $2500 laptop? not so much.
Macs are just better than other PCs. Yes, a Mac IS a personal computer. It’s just a much better bang for your buck than any windose copy thingy.
What it mainly comes down to for me is I like to build my own PCs. I wouldn’t pay some company to put it together for me, and I don’t need tech support since I can fix any problem that my PC can throw at me. I cannot go to my local computer supply store and buy everything I would need build a Mac, but I can build a great Windows PC for much cheaper than buying one pre-built. I built the PC I’m using now, and I haven’t had one crash or system failure since I built it two years ago, and it still runs like brand new. I will admit that Macs are beautifully built computers (especially the Mac Pro), but I like to have complete control with whats in my system. I have plenty experience using Macs over the years, but I still prefer Windows OS. A Windows PC does require more work to keep running as perfectly as a Mac, but I don’t mind a little maintenance here and there. There is no right or wrong, just personal preference.

Thanks for the information. I think MAC os is for certain people and certain business. Most of the people are using Windows . But yet apple is the best for another electronic items.
God forbid some of us prefer Windows OS over Mac OS X. Even if Macs were just a cheap as a PC I still wouldn’t buy one. I know this is just my opinion, but I really hate using Mac OS X. You realize your Mac is using an Intel processor and Nvidia or ATI graphics card. Hardware wise a Windows computer can handle anything that is in a Mac (but not any cheaper), so the argument comes down to which OS do you prefer. Also, Wendys Spicy Chicken is a rabid Apple fanboy, so no rational argument will ever sink into his ignorant mind. Hes the only f-ing loser here.
