Sony Ericsson Satio pulled from the shelves of two major UK retailers

More bad news out of the UK for Sony Ericsson as its flagship handset has been pulled from the shelves of both Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U. The two largest mobile phone retailers in the UK have suspended sales in response to a high volume of returns due to a reported “problem with the phone.” Sony Ericsson cites a software glitch as the cause of the problem and is expected to release a software update within two to three weeks to address the issue. In the interim if you absolutely must have the Satio, Orange and Vodafone are still selling the beleaguered handset with no problems being reported in their carrier-specific versions of the handset.

Ouch. Better get that update fast!
oops, sounds like it’s not simly a minor issue.
it’s been out for months now, SE does know it?
Will inform my friend had bought 3days ago
Sony Ericsson is really going down the drain, eh? First the X10 fails to amaze, and now this flagship sinks. Sony, in general, is no longer a leader in almost all categories (save for TV, I’d say).
And this is coming from a long-time fan with an anorexic W890i, a VAIO (still sexier than Mac), a BRAVIA, and a Blu-Ray player.
I’d say I like their Blu-Ray players a bit more than their tvs. Though, my area seems to have a lot of sales on Sony tvs, so for the price point they are probably the best.
@angrychinesedriver.com I would say sony is still a leader in audio as well
Good call! I completely neglected audio.
What I mean to say, then, is that Sony continues to excel in home theatre entertainment. However, Apple has stolen their “weightless notebook” concept, iPods continue to dominate, and cellphones and cameras are never at the top of the game.
One thing I really do love are the USB sticks, they’re magnificent Lexus LF-As of portable media storage. But also like the LF-A, very pricey.
I dont get it. Someone was actually buying that super-expensive dumbphone?
To anyone waiting for the X10 or that waited for the X1, here is another great why not to wait for a Sony Ericsson product.
doesnt sony make the ps3…
The phone was pulled because the adverts were so dire.
who else thinks it’s lame that BGR has “sponsored posts”. can’t we just look to the right and see that crap?
wow … that sucks “sony is phony” lol
I must admit.. It is a “handsome” phone.. if only it worked. Sony the company I love to hate. I think the root-kit mp3’s did it for me back in 05′. Too bad Ericsson was swallowed up by the Japanese Godzilla Corp.
Btw..ad’s? What ads? I have not seen an ad or pop-up in years.. Thank you ABP!
Mine works just fine.
The recall is only in UK and that too, only at 2 retailers.
As long as iPhone $49. This will fail in America.
I don’t really know why anyone would waste their time with anything other than an iPhone, Sony Ericsson haven’t made an amazing mobile phone for a long time and unfortunately for them this sort of issue just proves why it’s better to go with Apple, they excel in whatever they do.
Americans would buy an i-phone, because they have no idea just how non-functional it is compared to phones outside of US/Canada. I wish I could have kept my LG Renoir, but my home area went to 850 mHz so couldnt use this or my LG Viewty. Happily, (or unhappily) AT&T took over my local, highly functional company, and although it is AT&T it works well. My LG arena works fine, and I am convinced this or the Renoir would be an iphone killer if would be released here- all 40 megs of it.
That said, I bought an ipod touch only because the note function was prettier. And the app store is fabulous. I cannot describe LG’s app store, because my Compaq’s disc drive no longer works and I cant access the store.
The other carriers do have the same problems, namely vodafone, but won’t admit there are any problems with it.. Just look at their help forum.
When the phone works it is brilliant, and beats other phones… The iPhone i would not touch.. Crap battery life, crap camera, can’t bluetooth and can’t change the battery,
