Virgin Mobile Canada to carry iPhone 3G, 3GS
Looks like Virgin Mobile Canada is ready to break its iPhone hymen. Yesterday they announced that they will be offering both the iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS in retail stores in “the coming months.” Oh Sir Richard, how we love thee. We suppose you want details, but we don’t have any — the press release is a blistering 31 words and 198 characters long, hell if they had been a bit more succinct they could have just tweeted it — as Virgin Canada’s website has yet to be updated with the news. We’ll continue to follow this one as it develops.

Since this is Virgin Mobile, I wonder how their pre-pay and or rate plans will be priced. Do they even offer 3G with their towers? Or would they be using another carrier’s towers ala Telus, Bell, etc.
Virgin Mobile is an MVNO that runs on Bell network. Its actually wholly owned subsidiary of Bell Mobility.

Richard Branson owned 50% of Virgin Mobile Canada until some point this year when Bell bought out his share.

As much as everybody wanted that to end, it won’t happen until Apple builds a cdma version iPhone. Bell & Telus has added WCDMA over its existing CDMA network to make iPhone compatible. Verizon said they wouldn’t do it.

Virgin Mobile Canada is owned by Bell Canada and runs on their network. Since Bell launched their UMTS/HSPA network this month, Virgin Canada is now also compatible with the iPhone.
Rumour is that the launch will be in February.
