Sprint’s Hero receives an OTA update

sprint-htc-hero-1

Guess what, Sprint Hero users? The update that you have all been so patiently waiting for has finally arrived. No, we’re not talking about anything as big Android 2.0, but a bug killing maintenance release. Available OTA and coming in at 3748377 bytes, firmware 1.56.651.2 fixes that pesky SMS issues which caused significant battery drain as well as enables the device to play friendly with DST. So far we’re not noticing any other changes (we wish there were an official change log we could take a peek at), but if you spot anything, be sure to let us know. We love hearing from you.

Thanks, Mark!

    @Nico

    Sprint allows you to text while on a voice call, but not surf. I do it all the time with my Centro.

    The update seems to have fixed the bug with application icon, names, and version that occurs after updating an application and rebooting. Now I don’t have to use root to delete the /data/boot-cache directory. Thanks HTC.

    @ Nico, Actually CDMA can browse the web and have a voice call session at the same time, I have done this on the Palm Centro.. I haven’t tried it since, but wanted to inform you that it is possible.

    I downloaded the update and the only thing the phone will do is play those terrible new commercials from sprint! Help! It’s stuck on the one where the monotone guy goes “hey hey goodbye”

    I followed the update instructions, but get a “No firmware update available.” message. My software version is 1.22.651.1. What’s up with that?

      Here’s what’s up with that…Some of the early Hero’s (notably the ones they gave away at the developer conference) cannot get an OTA update.

      I took mine into the Sprint store. After fooling with it for 3 hours, they gave up. I ordered a replacement.

    You’re not a very good Hero advocate.

    1.22 is the advocate software loadset. You need to update to 1.29 over the wire.
