Bing U.S. market share approches 10%

bing.com screen shot

We have some news coming out of the world of those new-fangled “search engines” that are so popular with the kids; it looks like Microsoft’s re-branded search product’s market share is creeping up on double digits in the U.S., currently sitting at 9.9% for September of 2009. Bing’s share of internet spelunking is up 1.4% for the year and 0.5% in September alone, compare that with -3% on the year for Yahoo! and +2.4% for Google. Not too shabby, considering bing.com was just launched on May 28th of this year. Here at BGR we are pretty loyal Googler’s, what about you? Any die hard, uh, Binger’s out there?

I use google mostly out of habit and how used to it I am. I admit I have never used Bing and prolly never will. The commercials make my head hurt. Also it is called a “decision engine” personally I don’t want MS or Google making my decisions. Give me the info and I’ll choose thanks.

I’ve used Bing for airline tickets. When you click on travel, and ask for tickets for a specific trip, you not only get prices from multiple websites, but you also get a tip as to whether or not prices will fall or rise. I managed to snag a roundtrip from Pensacola to DC for $279 because of bing.

    Though, I’m more of a Yahoo-er guy. :-p

Bing stands above Google for traveling… that’s for sure. Standard search results… no so much, really… I guess it’s nice to have the option, both work if you let it. Not gonna be a hater like the rest of you.

I started using Bing the day it came out, have not used Google or Ask since. Not saying they are bad, Bing just works for me.

Microsoft bought farecast for its travel engine. That is why it is so good.

I use bing for purchasing to take advantage of the Cash Back.

    That’s about it.

I use Bing since it’s out, for the following reason :
    - answers are good enough for me
    - I like the picture of the day concept, it’s fun and often interesting. Google’s main page looks so ‘98 once you are used to Bing.
    - Bing is way more efficient to find pictures and videos

The only Google needs i still have are when searching about programming stuff, where copy/paste an error message gives better results in google. Aside this, I Bing all day ^^

It will be very hard to top Google, but Bing is certainly a substantial improvement over previous incarnations of Microsoft’s search engine. I like how the image search feature scrolls infinitely — eliminating the need to keep on clicking “Next” — and I like that its maps are somewhat different from Google’s (for certain trips it’s useful to compare and contrast Google’s and Bing’s driving directions). Also, for patient people, Bing’s shopping cashback program allows shoppers to collect a certain percentage of their puchase back in cash after a two-month waiting period. So Bing is definitely a lot better than most people probably give it credit for. Not Google, of course, but not bad, either.
