The BlackBerry 9700 isn’t the only announced handset that is being released today, and for those of you who prefer a phone with a bit more of that international appeal, may we present to you, the Nokia E72. Let’s recap some of the specs for those of you who may have forgotten: 10.2Mbps HSDPA, integrated compass, A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, S60 3rd Edition, improved email functionality, and a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera. The Nokia USA store and Amazon are still listing the E72 as “pre-order” but we are hoping to pick up a unit or 12 before the day is out. Anyone out there longing for this new Nokia handset, or have other recent devices stolen all your lust?

For how much I love my E71 I still went back to my N95 due to the Multimedia features/Camera/Video.
I love QWERTY keyboards but found that the E71 keys are too small for my large fingers and typing long e-mails/txts got cumbersome.
Not that my N95 is any better with T9.

I am using E71 and Pre now. If they include voice-guided navigation with Maps 3, this just maybe the reason for me to upgrade. Palm/Sprint have a good navigation app but GPS reciever doesn’t work in my car, unlike E71. On the other hand, I don’t like Nokia Maps 2.0 that comes with Nokia plus Nokia charges for the voice-guided navi, which I think is a ripoff. I am guessing after Android 2.0 ships with free voice guided navigation, Nokia will have to make this service free as well.

I have been using my e71x for a while now – and the only complaint I have is the crappy 3.2mp camera.

As far as I’m concerned, the e72 is a welcome “upgrade” – just hoping the camera is up to par.

And I love it that the Nokia Messaging is still “free”, just hope it stays free.

And using Joiku Hotspot is fantastic as well.

Yeah, up until I got my Clear WiMax service, I used Joiku Hotspot also. Love it, only paid ATT $10/mo, and I had internet on my laptop!

But yeah, this E72 is definetly a great upgrade, perticularly the 3.5 headphone jack! ATT would be wise to carry it.

@ jas ….. i have the white e71 and love every aspect of it EXCEPT the camera! unfortunately i dont think the upgrade to 5mp would fix the grainy pictures. there are some 2mp cameras that take better pictures than a 3.2mp…it goes much deeper than just boosting the megapixels, in my own opinion. i still think the 8300 series of blackberries took some of the best pictures ive seen on a phone.

Personally, I would’ve preferred to see the E55 released here in the states instead. I like the form factor and the keyboard being a former Pearl user.

Will there be a NAM version? (850/1900 3G)

Will it charge over MicroUSB yet, or only over the Nokia proprietary jack?

    Is it S60 3rd Edition FP1 or FP2?

Modded down for asking 3 relevant questions?

Looking at the down-modding on all the other comments made by people who are simply DISCUSSING THIS PHONE, and MAKING COMMENTS ABOUT IT, this does not suprise me.

      BGR, fail.

I’m not seeing the phone on the Nokia USA site. Supposedly the keys have been enlarged some on this model.

I had the e71x for a week recently and wanted to throw it through the window. Dear god I honestly can’t see the appeal this series has to ANYONE.

I was actually considering buying one of these bad boys in place of my N97. I bought my mom the e71x and she perfers it more than the BB Curve I was going to give her.

PS I’m typing this lovely comment on the new Nokia 3G Booklet and I have to say the build quality alone makes it worth the price…E series phones are usually metal also (I owned an E62 back in the day).

And what’s with all the dislikes on the comments hahaha…just wondering.

Just checked the store in Chicago and not in yet. I find it amazing they had 5 people in the front of the store to welcome shoppers, but no one to be seen in the middle of the day. Not sure about Nokia’s future…

I am TOTALLY looking forward to this phone.

but alas, i won’t be able to buy it until it drops in price substantially.

in the meantime, I will enjoy my E71. Anybody know how long the E71 will hang around after the new model comes out? I want to buy another for someone (:

I’m interested in this phone. Is there any news on AT&T picking this phone up (soon) or should I just get the BB 9700 when it comes to AT&T next week?

I won’t be switching back to Nokia any time soon. Had the E61i and E71. The former was beautifully chunky, but slow and a nightmarishly bad keyboard. The latter was zippy as hell and had amazing build quality — simply the best made phone ever — and an okay keyboard. But the Symbian OS is the pits, pure and simple. If Nokia licensed Android (unlikely) or BB OS (hell will first freeze over), I’d go back. But no amount of build quality makes up for the utterly miserable Symbian experience, whether you’re talking lousy contacts, crap email or a stultifying lack of apps.

    • hary says:

I guess, then you have no knowledge about Symbian. Symbian S60v3 has the maximum number of Symbian apps in the market as of now.
