Palm Pixi now available from Sprint
If you’re desperately jonesing for a webOS device but hate those pesky sliders, today is your day, folks. It is the Palm Pixi’s first day of availability on Sprint. Going for $99.99 on a 2-year contract after a $100 mail-in rebate, we have to be completely honest and admit that we would personally snatch the Pre over the Pixi, but you own a computer and have navigated to BGR all on your own, so we’re sure you can make a decision over what handset to buy. Let us know if you pick one up today okay?
Also, for those that don’t mind waiting, Wirefly is practically giving the Pixi away at $24.99.

How in the hell do other stores make any money selling it 29.99?
They require you to keep your service for at the least 6 months. Or you get an extra $200 on top of your ETF. If you change your rate plan it has to be one that is higher or of the same cost as the one you had when you opened up service, and changes should be done through them.
That’s why.
They get paid a fee by the carrier.
@Eric,
I believe that a 3rd party gets a portion of the 2 year contract. They probably make a little over $10 dollars signing it that way.

The Wirefly link takes me to The Droid…lol!
@Rdubmu .. I see you are from Issaquah, WA… You old enough to have been through the grunge band days?
@Mrwirez
I was a teen when the Grudge band started
Got mine today. Have to say the formfactor is perfect for webos, but the device is under powered. This wont be a giant difference for a casual user like me, but power users are going to want to stick to the pre with its higher processor, more available RAM and wi-fi.

Let Centro Lovers enjoy an updated device. Thats all there is to it.
But if Palm really wants to turn heads, they need to hurry up with that Treo Replacement.
True on the Centro, my girlfriend is looking for a new phone. Something basic, not too complicated, so this could be a good phone for her.
plus one more for ex centro users.. My cousin went with the Pre.. My mom wants this.. Id never get this phone but it looks good for the casual smartphone user.. Palm needs this on all carriers fast, before the iphone drops any lower.. With only one body style to make and with distro all over the globe the iphone can get cut lower than anything else.. Apple is milking the wal mart model.. Palm better step on the gas
It’d be nice if Palm released the Pixi SDK to the developers so that we could actually write software for it. Their developer program leaves a lot to be desired.

Mitch is not a current Sprint subscriber just want to troll this article
Better than trolling all articles. No one cares that you have 3 upgrades, and no one cares that the Pixi is getting a “hard look” from you. Douche.
I dont care that he has 3 upgrades either.. Thats why I didnt comment on it
Says the troll.
I had a pre and LOVED webOS but the dead pixels and other hardware issues made me leave sprint within the 30 days in september. now im back and i bought a pixi today because I felt it would be everything I wanted from the pre, solid hardware and an amazing operating system.
I do NOT like the pixi at all. im a 17 year old boy and the phone is just not what it’s cracked up to be and it’s geared to people in my age group too.
the screen is PUNY and pretty much a total joke for web browsing and watching videos. the keyboard may be clickier and raised more but i think the pre types better and i like the more spaced out keyboard on the pre. the camera is just not good. the speaker is VERY LOW in volume, jamming to music will be impossible sadly. oh and the crappier processor IS quite noticeable, especially when using the music player and web browser.
well hopefully the pre has better hardware (no dead pixels at least) now because im definitely returning the pixi as soon as possible.
Do your self a favor and skip the Pre and get a Hero. I went from the Pre to the Hero and I am so happy. I found the Pre to be slow and laggy. I think it is because of the screen transition animations. The Hero is faster when compared side by side and the Pre screen feels A LOT smaller than the Hero even though it is 3.1 and the Hero is 3.2. I think it has to do with the rounded corners and the top bar with the time, signal, etc…
i severely dislike android. had a G1 and android is just not aesthetically pleasing and i NEED a hardware keyboard so hero won’t work for me :/
i loved my pre so yah (:
Agree with that. Android has much potential, I just don’t care for it. webOS is much better, in my opinion.

im just hoping there’s no dead pixels because that is the ONE issue i cannot deal with lol.
I took the Pixi out of contention because of the cam, but still may come back with the price going as low as $25 but that’s probably for a new line.
that phone is brutally ugly…the HUGE space between the keyboard and the screen kills it for me
Do you know how to read?
The Pixee is designed for large men who want to be macho. Real men who chop wood and build their own cars and aren’t afraid to use a gesture area. Quienes mas macho? The Pixeee or Richard Simmons?
I would so pick one up if these Palm exec idiots would release a subsidized GSM $99 version on the other carriers. Seriously, this is the type of phone that should be on every carrier and has the capacity to overtake RIMs market dominance with the craptastic 8300 Curve.
I agree, it will be free, it’s just gonna be locked down for a little while, like the Centro.
Though hopefully not too long…
This new Palm is very disappointing, having features so low for what we expect to see these day from a smartphone. We wrote a short review about here, http://www.itsagadget.com/2009/11/palm-pixi-is-not-ready-yet-to-face-the-reality.html
