Samsung’s first Bada handset leaks out
In case you haven’t heard, the other day Samsung announced Bada, a new open source platform it hopes will enable its handsets to better compete with the likes of the iPhone and the entire Android line-up. Set to arrive in Q1 2010, not much is known about Bada other than that it features an intuitive touchscreen-based UI and will, for the most part, take the place of all Symbian S60 handsets offered by the Korean company. The handsets that will debut running Bada are also a mystery, but our Dutch friends over at Mobile Phone Helpdesk Europe were sent in a tip, and the handset you see rendered above could be amongst the very first. The fact anyone with the slightest Photoshop skills could whip this up aside, let’s assume for a minute what we’re looking at is real. Are you feeling it or not?

Let’s not forget Apple has had only ONE phone in the past 3 years. That OS was full of tons of bugs when it started, and it’s finally just getting features phones had standard 4 years ago like MMS and half-assed copy/paste. Any OS will function well when it’s had 3 years of software updates and no deviations in platform. After all, it’s the changes in platform that really test an OS. The differing hardware is what makes the bugs because it poses the real challenge. You can bet if Apple had more than one phone in a 3 year period, they’d have problems left and right.

You know what your talking about… Its alot easier to design cutesy graphics for one screen then several different sizes and/ or resolutions..
The iPhone is great and a huge game changer.. but anything else that has EVER been considered a smartphone has had at least two of these customizable homescreens, open development, and multitasking..
The app store is an attempt to suck more money out of customers and force you to use iTunes.. Apple wont let you install anything that doesnt pass their approval which is more political than technical, whether it be somthing made by a hobbyist doing the community a favor or your IT department trying to use your phone as a smartphone..
iPhone is great.. But just as far if not farther from being perfect than anyone else.. If you think its perfect your delusional or the iPhone is your first smartphone..
Wm might have its fair share of problems but check this link.. Unless you have a Wm it will be quite some time before your phone can do anything remotely close to this…

Considering all the good mobile OSs come from big-time software houses, who does Samsung think it is that it can walk in and change it all? Samsung is primarily a hardware house, and most of their software efforts have shown half-ass-ness.
Having had a minor view from Samsung from the inside, they’re still hardware specialists. They actually think software can be developed like hardware by just cutting development time in half and it’ll work!
If even magical Apple and Google still has a hard time, what kind a crap will Bada be for years to come?
Samsung is releasing both Android and Bada devices, it’s not really a head-to-head. If you look at Samsung Jet – how fast it is and how good the UI is, Bada will probably be next step in same direction. Looking forward to it.

I’m really getting tired of new Mobile OS Platforms. I wish hardware vendors would get it. The more people on one OS mean more Apps, support, and love for that OS. Why do they keep reinventing the wheel and making no traction? Android, WebOS, iPhone OS, BBos, WinMo, Symbian, Maemo, and now Bada. Can they not see that PCs only have a few real platforms that actually have any traction (Windows, MacOS, Linux) Why is this OS going to be better than any of the others? How long will we have to wait before Shazam is available for it? I won’t buy one, regardless of how sexy the hardware is.
I want an OS that is not locked to one hardware vendor – Android seems more modern than Windows Mobile, but just as disorganized and varied from phone to phone, WebOS seems great, but tied to Palm only phones as of yet….
Anyone else notice that the two phones in that render (hang-up and call) are both facing the same direction? Seems fishy to me…
