Modern Warfare 2 sells almost 5M copies on launch day

mw2

We all knew that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was destined to smash industry sales records, but the pace at which the game is reported to be selling is absolutely shocking. By Activision’s own internal estimate, the first 24 hours of availability in the US, Canada and UK saw 4.7 million copies sold and generated approximately $310 million of revenue. As for the rest of the world, a good estimate is proving itself rather hard to come by, but Joystiq believes we’re looking at another 2.7m copies on the first day. Yes indeed, it looks as if Activision CEO Bobby Kotick will indeed be getting that mega yacht for Christmas.

40 year old gamer here. And yes, happily married for 10 years and gainfully employed.

Wonder how many of those under 25 will stop gaming completely when they hit 25? My guess is few.

I’m 42 and I still play video games. Especially this one. I got hooked on video games while I was in high school. Before that, it was pen & paper D&D or board games. I can’t even imagine life without a gaming console now. This coming from an old fart gamer! LOL!

Yep, you’re looking at a 45 yr. old gamer right here too. Been playing games since the old Atari Pong, Commodore64 and other consoles in between, now PS3 and 360. Married(wife understands my gaming need) for about 19 years and thank God I make a good living. Although I don’t have the time to play due to priorities, I still play the hottest games on line too. I get killed a lot from a lot younger folks since they have more play time. My 2 kids are following dad’s footsteps too. But its all about fun and diversion for me. Point is, once a gamer always a gamer regardless of age. Besides, the demographic for these kind of games are 18 to 50 year olds. The one thing cool being this old gaming is I can buy anything anytime as long as its not ruining the budget. Keep gaming..

I think the industry knows that gamers are not exclusive to the 8-18 yr old demographic anymore, like it was back when I started playing games on my Atari 2600. Gaming is pretty much geared on the 18-45 age group. All you have to do is look at the pricing of the consoles and the games themselves. Games are less and less for kids, just like the entertainment industry in general. That’s why Disney is so successful. They fill that niche that most others don’t care to. They cater to children, and the same can be said about Nintendo and the Wii. For the most part, the people who play games are the ones that grew up with them and can afford them.

I can totally relate. I own all the consoles and I started out playing my 360 pretty heavily, but now I play my PS3 more and more. I like the fact that they added the ‘toggle mute’ option in the game now too.

I stated I was in chair because I want people to know that video games are great for people with dissabilities. I’m able to snowboard by playing the game STUPID. Jesus some of your are real pricks.
