Palm Pixi gets unboxed before its release
Oh, you don’t remember? Well we’re back at it again, this time with one of our connects doing the unboxing ritual for us. There’s not all that much exciting to report, you know, with the handset shipping with a USB cable, charging adapter, instruction manual and battery. But hey, an unboxing is an unboxing damn it, and we’ve got the goods. We promised ourselves we weren’t going to take any shots but, with the Palm Pre going for $99 in Canada and the awesome HTC DROID Eris selling for $99 on Verizon, is anyone really going to spring for a $99-priced Palm Pixi? Only time will tell.
Thanks, Ninja J!

That is soooo last year.
Palm, keep up the good work.

Not sure if mentioned int he comments yet but Walmart’s online site lists the Pixi at $29.99 (as usual, via letstalk.com).
Look, we’re just going to say it: the Pixi’s keyboard is totally awesome. Admittedly, we weren’t expecting fireworks when we first laid eyes on this tiny QWERTY, but the experience of using it day to day has been nothing short of a revelation. You would think that the tight spacing and tiny keys would make typing a difficult task, but Palm has cleverly given the Pixi keyboard snappy tactile feedback and a substantial height boost, making tapping away a serious pleasure. Weirdly, typing on the Pixi keyboard is kind of like using the iPhone keyboard — they have a similar size, shape, and spacing — but of course, you’ve got the advantage of physical keys with the Pixi. While we still wish Palm would step up its autocorrection in the software, we did find ourselves making less mistakes with the Pixi than we do with the Pre, which is saying something. Palm has always had knack for making quality keyboards, and the Pixi’s micro size doesn’t seem to have held the company back from doing it again. Thanks to this keyboard, we’re more convinced than ever that a portrait QWERTY is the most efficient and natural arrangement for physical input.
engadgets review shits on bg and his bullshit
this is an unboxing not a review…
HE has a valid point that the phone is not a heavy smartphone users choice and with other options on bigger networks around the same price point, palm’s only hope of turning a profit is getting this phone on every network just like they did the centro. As a current sprint customer i’m purchasing this one over the pre just for the form factor and obviously better build quality (I’m hoping)
BGR being totally skewed against anything not iphone (or apple in general) or verizon has been public knowledge since day one. This isn’t cnn, he’s allowed to throw impartiality to the wind. Whether or not its a good decision, is totally up to personal opinion.
this is soooo last year, at the very least…

looks alot like my Palm Treo Pro, but with out the middle keys and stuff. Nah, I think I will stick with Windows Mobile. ha ha!
I am sure that this will be a great device, but Palm is a little late to the party. I was stuck on WinMo due to contract, but I thought the Pre was great. I bought the Droid and I am happy with it as it stands…..is it perfect…no….but I think the screen is great and the overall hardware is quality. Android may not be super polished but I have faith that google will continue to release updates with more functionality. I was a Treo user for a few years, and Palm doesn’t tend to innovate much. I think the Pre could of should of would of, but they arrived to the market with a great OS and decent hardware, but 8GB is not going to cut it. Palm should have included a expansion slot or at least matched the 16GB that the Iphone already had. The market share graph tells the real tale.
i love the pixi. its like a funner blackberry. so small, so cute, yet powerful. some reviews say it lags but its not meant to have more than 5 cards open at a time.
lack of wifi does kind of stink but if you have good coverage in your area Sprint’s 3G is pretty awesome.
ive heard the camera is bad from a few reviews but i saw pictures taken with it on phonescoop and they look pretty darn decent!
battery life is going to be better due to the smaller, less bright screen and less intense processor.
keyboard is supposedly BETTER which is always awesome in a qwerty device.
OVERALL this phone is a great deal and for the $100 price point you cant really go wrong with it in my opinion. already reserved mine at radioshack and picking it up in 2 days, SO STOKED!
