AT&T gearing up to launch $99 8GB iPhone 3GS?
Definitely not confirmed, but rather interesting nonetheless. We’ve heard now from two sources that AT&T, and we guess Apple, are contemplating launching an 8GB iPhone 3GS at the $99 price point before Christmas. One source said this was AT&T’s way of combating the DROID madness.

I don’t think AT&T is scared, maybe nervous or they want to ruin VZW little party. I know Verizon is scared, after all this years trying to get an Iphone Killer and the failures( LG Voyager, BB Storm and maybe the tour) yes I think it’s safe to say that Verizon is scared and desperate.
I don’t have any issue with dropped calls in my iPhone, but yes I agree Verizon just cannot seem to get their act together regarding handsets!!! The droid is not going to change that.

Droid/Android is too immature still and while the iPhone is nice, AT&T kills it with their crappy network.
I’ve racked up hours upon hours of calls on my 9550 so far over the last week and haven’t dropped a single call. I’d drop a call per hour on the iPhone. I once tried to take a business call on my iPhone while the caller was also using an iPhone ( in another state). It was a freaking joke. 6 drops in 20 minutes.

Next price drop will be in June when the next models are released. I have asked 2 friends who are in management positions at ATT and they are high up enough to have heard if there have been any pricing schedule changes in the near future.

If they can sell the 8GB 3GS for $100 the 16GB should be $120 and the 32GB $160. All the other hardware is the same.
Way to kill the sales for the 16 & 32

Why would you Apple fanboys give this comment negative ratings when he has a legitimate argument? It doesn’t disappoint you that Apple is charging you so much for an increase in memory that should only cost you $20-$30? If you would have scrutinized Apple products as you are with the Droid, then maybe it wouldn’t have taken Apple 3 tries to finally get the functions it should have had on day one!
Compare the price of 1 GB and 8 GB of RAM sticks
Sales prices on electronic devices are rarely linear with cost to build. They more closely track the demand, i.e. the desirability. That is, since a lot fewer people will desire a phone that can only handle 8GB, Apple will have to sell it at a lower relative price. conversely, the more desirable versions of an electronic device (e.g. iPhone 16 and 32) can command a higher sales price and associated margins.
It’s just simple economics, and you’ve seen it at play throughout the history of the iPod as well.
I was just about to buy one. I am going to wait to see if this happens before I buy one.
How long are you waiting? I’m in the same boat as you.

LOL..what a ‘loserly’ comment that was..Just because the guy didn’t like the iPhone, you attack his English..How old are you? 7?
I am very happy with my iphone with a rollover plan…I pay for minimum voice service and still I have 800 minutes in rollover… Verizon is not providing this service…3 years back I switched from altell to ATT to only get nice phones from AT&T…I am still happy..Will continue with AT&T

What’s different? Is it that the $99 phone is now the base price for the 8GB model? Even for those who opt to upgrade early? Frustrated when I was unable to upgrade from my AT&T Blackberry Curve before 5/1/10 without paying (previous) full $199 pricetag for the 8GB iPhone.
If AT&T and Apple sell a $99 iPhone 3GS, it will sell well, but at the same time it will crush AT&T’s network. AT&T is caught between a rock and a hard place. They want to sell more iPhones, but their network doesn’t have the capacity to support it.

Verizon should stop using CDMA phones to boost their sales. Who is going to spend 199 on phone which is unusable after 2 years contract and switch to another provider.
In my opinion AT&T is the best, they have the best Great phones, customer service is great& I don’t have a problem with dropped calls. Besides AT&T has the best phone ever in the iPhone, they will be the only carrier untill 2012 they signed a 5 year deal in 07. The Internet speed is also good. Bottom line is AT&T is the best
I think you should do your research before you make a post. The exclusivity deal with at&t ends next year not 2012! at&t mobility CEO, Ralph De La Vega even acknowledges that APPLE won’t be renewing the exclusivity deal..That’s just business
to rusty: you condemn someone for their english, and then you turn around and say “not many phones can much the ease of use the iphone puts out” ?
EPIC FAIL
@Mike near the top: Mike, you state Android and the Droid in general are too immature, while touting the BB Storm 2 as superior? Give me a break, you went with the same old tired out RIM platform with the THIRD largest app store currently available. The Blackberry marketplace is sparse and a closed system much like Apple’s app store. At least Android has openness and user customizability as its top priorities. You’ve been taken by Storm my friend.
I was going to get the Droid until I learned I can’t use the web or an app that needs data when I’m on a phone call! Come on, that is the type multitasking I need! I refuse to go to At&t though I would try the iPhone. It looks like I may be off to try the Pre!
