Verizon DROID data plan $30 with Exchange support for consumer lines
There have been rumors flying around the intertubes that Verizon is planning to charge an extra $15/month to allow your shiny new Motorola DROID to be hooked up to Microsoft’s Exchange email enviroment. Well, we are happy to confirm that, for consumer lines anyway, these rumors are false. The folks over at Gearlog received clarification from Verizon’s headquarters about the rumored $45/month data mandate, and it looks as though it’s for corporate responsible user accounts only. Individual accounts and family lines, whether you use Exchange or not, will still cost just $30/month. Good news for future DROID owners out there, and just the same as how the iPhone pricing works on AT&T.
Actually I don’t think this true! Verizon windows mobile don’t require this! There is talk of good mobile messaging app that would require the 45 dollar days plan!
Finally someone cleared this up. I was so sick of this misinformation. I knew that you wouldn’t have to pay $45. More misinformation from blogs who don’t do their research.
There is NO 5gb limit on the data plan. The limit is only on the extra tethering feature or on aircards and netbooks… Don’t post unless you have your facts straight. Unless you just have a bone to pick with VZW
I feel so sorry for our American cousins. Here in UK, $40 pm equivalent buys you 500 mins voice (unlimited to landlines), unlimited SMS, email including Exchange accounts and 500Mb browsing. And you’ll probably get a free handset on a 24 month plan, too.
And, upside of being a tiny country with shitty weather, all four carriers provide full 3G in most places that you’d want to visit.
so its like a 50 dollar monthly premium not to live in a a tiny country with shitty weather? sign me up.
The Verizon website lists the data charge at $44.99.
Just picked up my Droid, and set up Exchange on the $30 plan (corporate account) no prob.
So when I bought my droid the guy told me the $44.99 data plan was required to get my corporate e-mail. I showed him this posting and he said the info was false. I told him to give me the $29.99 plan instead of the $44.99 plan anyway and I’d try it.
Well I can’t get mail to sync. My exchange calendar synced at first, but now I can’t get that to sync either. It tells me “authentication failed.”
Any suggestions?
I agree – I had to sign up for $44.99. Still waiting to get exchange up and running, but I am paying the exact same as when I had a blackberry.
Much like the iPhone $30 plan works fine for Exchange but if you do a lot of Exchange usage and they notice it will get cut off and you have to switch plans.
The description even lists it as for POP and IMAP accounts only.
They charged me $45……
Unfortunately, this isn’t true. Exchange requires the $45 plan no matter who you are. At least that’s what the Verizon guys said when I went in to the store.
Just confirmed 2 min ago as well. $45 just to use the Exchange functionality.
Love the Droid so far, but this certainly puts a damper on things.
I have 2 exchange accounts (school and work) – and neither worked on the droid. One worked on Touchdown (school), but the other (work) didnt. I had the $29.99 data plan.
Although this is a personal account, I have access to our corporate rep through work. He told me that I need the $45 plan to work with Exchange. So he put it on my plan. That made the school account work (previously it had only worked with Touchdown 3rd party app)… but the work account still doesn’t work.
I guess Android is not supporting Exchange ActiveSync policies or something to that effect. Its a shame – they shouldn’t advertise full exchange support if they don’t really have it.
