HTC DROID Eris gets unboxed
One of our connects just blessed us with a couple shots of the HTC DROID Eris and graciously unboxed the retail packaging. We could bore you with meaningless details about how the phone is thinner and lighter than the Sprint HTC Hero, feels much better in the hand, and is generally the best Android device besides the Motorola DROID our connect has used, but we’ll stop there. Yes, HTC is working on updating the Sense UI to work with 2.0. i would say sometime early next year or sooner.

I don’t think this is going to have senseUI, as it’s a “with google” device.
Um, that doesn’t mean squat. Sprint’s HTC Hero has Sense UI in all its glory, and is a “with Google” device as well.

Seriously tho, what other mobile phone news is out there right now that deserves the spotlight? this is big for VZW and its customers who’ve been waiting for SOOOO long for good phones to come out. They scooped the Experia, did you notice?

I’m pretty sure the HTC HD2 launch is a bigger deal than the Droid Eris which is just a rebadged Sprint HTC Hero that launched a month ago.
Plus, time and time again VZW kills all other US carriers in service coverage. Also, whats this BS cry baby law suit from AT&T? Its an ad! Get over it.

What I love is that you can vote UP a post as long as it has ZERO hits or already positive hits… If you vote UP something thats negative, it only adds another negative vote. If you vote DOWN something thats already positive, it gives a positive vote.

I guess I don’t understand why if the majority of you feel that he is biased and a Verizon fanboy that your still on here daily reading his blogs and commenting on every Veirzon post. It just doesn’t make sense. Or you could type your phone or carrier in the search bar and get all news on your device or carrier avoiding any Verizon post. Another optioin: There is Phonearena, Engadget, PhoneDog, etc…
It really is just a waste of time coming on here ranting, he’s still going to post what he wants. Just my thoughts.

lol i love how fanboy BGR get about devices and companies and how everyone makes about deal about it… they talk about how amazing everything is and everyone is and yet each time people get mad about it. BGR is unbiased and they hype up everything get over it and urselves lol. Phone looks nice ill check it out on friday when i get my DROID

Interesting that it says “with Google” on the back despite running the Sense UI. I was under the impression that no non-Google experience devices would be allowed to have “with Google” on them.

Yes! Please! I swear I saw a screenshot of a Verizon inventory terminal that said HTC Passion on it — but now I can’t find it? I’m dying to know if that’s on par with the Droid’s power. I’m willing to wait for an update to A 2.0 if I can get Sense UI and not deal with a not-so-great physical keyboard.
How is this better than the Sprint Hero if they both run the same exact specs? Touch sensitive buttons now, too? Ugh.

This phone look real nice, I like the look of this over the Sprint Hero. Only if Sprint would of went with this instead.
Another thing why is everyone saying that BGR are VZW fanboys? They are not VZW fanboys, if you havnt noticed people the only company at the moment making all the news is VZW even though I wish they weren’t. So cut BGR some slack.

Boy Genius is not a Fanboy. When he did the Droid Review he said the iPhone is still the best phone ever made. Look before you give your “Opinion”…
Question for ya Corey… Do you know anything about Sprint’s 4G? Its Wimax and its a deadend technology. Literally EVERY other company is going to LTE including European companies. Sprint will be on there own to build their network and they will be in the same boat as AT&T as far as a terrible network. Also, maybe if another company released a phone worthy of note then BGR would cover it.
Boy Genius also slammed the hell out of the Storm last year.
Swagger:
don’t hate on big red or the Droid. I think the iphone is the best phone ever made, but I would never get it since it’s with AT&T and I like talking to people. Give another phone a chance and then decide if you want to point and laugh, or cry like a wussy.

sorry to be prudish, but i just can’t get past the repetitive use of the word CONNECTS when you meant CONTACTS.
from the dictionary:

connect has no similar meaning associated with it.
It’s like Bookmarks vs. Favorites. Semantics, that’s all.

Wouldn’t that be wonderful if AT&T permits tethering to the 3Gs before VZW permits tethering with either ther Droid or Eris.

Does anyone really think this looks better than Sprint’s Hero? I certainly don’t.
The metallic paint on the buttons is going to wear off quite quickly, and it makes the phone look cheap.
In my opinion, the earpiece grille, camera housing, and contrasting colors of the Hero make it a better looking phone.

I would say both the Hero and Eris look better then the Droid. As for looks between Hero and Eris, I dont like silver so Eris looks better to me.

The silver is nice.
What bothers me about the Eris is the silver-painted buttons. They look cheap. Also, the area around the earpiece and the earpiece itself are not are sleek as the Hero’s variants.
The Storm 2 has it over all these posers!
