BlackBerry Storm2 lands on Verizon with BOGO in tow
After months of leaks, teasing and previews, yesterday was the first day that Verizon Wireless started selling the BlackBerry Storm2. Available on a 2-year contract for $179.99 after rebates (or $539.00 contract free), the Storm2 intentionally regrettably has been released on the very same day both Verizon and Motorola took the wraps off of the DROID. Verizon and RIM were at least kind enough to include it in their latest BOGO campaign, though. Sure, the BOGO sale lets you get other devices like the Tour and MiFi 2200, but let’s be honest here — people are going to be picking up a second Storm2 and putting it on eBay post-haste. So what say you, “Storm chasers”? Are you going to be pursuing this weather system or sitting it out?

(1) BlackBerry Storm2 = $179.99 w/ 2-year activation
(1) Additional BlackBerry Storm2 = FREE with w/ 2-year activation
You now have two activate lines of which both have two-year agreements of which you paid $179.99 for one handset.
(1) Early Termination fee of the 2nd activation = $200.
So, you can sell one on eBay for $400, make $200 profit after you cancel the extra new line you made, and let Verizon “pay” you $20 to take a Storm2 on your first line.
$179.99 + FREE + $200 ETF + $400 sale = $21 profit.
Would we recommend doing this? No. But he was merely making a point you obviously skipped over when you tried to bash him.
Liked.

Problem BGR; At my local VZ store yesterday, it is not offered two for $179.99, that is the price of a single purchase w/ contract etc; the price for purchase of one and one free as I recall is $249.99. I stand to be corrected but that was very clear at the VZW store locally .
Your forgetting you can do this:
http://cashmoneylife.com/2008/01/10/transfer-your-cell-phone-contract-avoid-paying-fees/
to avoid those early termination fees (assuming you can find someone willing to take your contract).
Although I think the phone goes w/ the contract, so I don’t know if this makes sense. Just sayin’
It’s possible to do that as long as it is not to an authorized retailer. You rob from your fellow man. The ETF goes to Verizon where the retailer won’t see a dime from AND get charged back the commission from the sale.
Now as for this 249.99 price on the Storm 2… The current price in my stor is 179.99 with BOGO! No mail in rebate, to my knowledge, and if you get on Verizon Wireless’s web-site it is discounted further at 149.99 with a two year agreement! I hate to break this to you but each Verizon store in their region sets their own price schedule and as in my store we are not under those restrictions, since I work for a Plus store and “we” decide based on area and internet prices!
What site are you looking at j? Verizon’s website has it for 179.99 with a 2 yr contract.
@T dot,
Got so wet?
You need to get some help! Yuck!

I will admit when i’m wrong… I was looking at the 9530 before “on-line” discount, I apologize!!! Thanks for bringing it to my attention… I’ll read further before I open my mouth next time.
BG, when do we get your review? At the risk of sounding sycophantic, I would like to hear your thoughts before I consider the S2.
“the Droid has been released.” uh hello unless I can go buy it somewhere it’s not released.
Does anyone know if when this is unlocked if it’ll be usable on T-Mo network?
I know that unlocked Storm 1’s worked on TMo. Check out Crackberry to see if the S2 is similar.
Yeah but you get charged $35 restck fee on each phone so it’s not that easy just to exchange.

I’m wondering why anyone would even be interested in the Storm 2 when the Droid is approaching in 1-week. Even if the Droid isn’t for everyone, the fact Android-based devices will be hitting Verizon is definitely a huge bonus compared to their previous line-up. Blackberry is essentially just for corporate execs concerned with exchange security however, as more devices adopt similar security settings, more and more users will switch. Also, BB’s are absolutely, without-a-doubt, no fun to use! I have the new Tour on VZW, and will be returning it for the Droid on the 6th.
REGARDING BOGO:
Here’s the thing. If you already have two lines active and both lines are eligible for an upgrade then all you have to do is:
(1) Pay $179.99 w/ 2-year activation
(2) Activate the 2nd line as well
(3) Sell it on eBay for, let’s say, $400 or keep it as a replacement
(4) Switch back to dumbphone on 2nd line to not pay the additional data plan fee
or
use the 2nd line’s upgrade eligibility on something else when you get sick of your storm2
why would I get a storm2 when I can get a DRIOD! I’m definitely selling my first storm.
What a lot of people fail to realize when it comes to phones these days is style. Yes, I agree the Droid has a pheonomenal operating system, I thin Motorola dropped the ball on Tue design of the phone. The storm for all its negative slack over the past year is for lack of better words, a hot looking device. I think the Droid will be successful among techies that follow specs, but I think BlackBerry is in a good. position to redefine themselves

I think people realize that first gen Storm was utter crap. Many owners of the 1st one dont really see the need to upgrade just for wifi and more memory and upgraded touch screen. Aside from that its essentially the same device. And with the addition of 5.0 for the Storm 1, now most of the functionality of the Storm 2 will be on the first device too. And I disagree that Blackberries are just for corporate users. If that were the case they wouldnt have made a touch blackberry. Which clearly indicates a desire to pickup some mainstream regular consumers. And its also a slick looking device. It definitely looks better than the the Motorola Droid. It may not do or have all the bells and whistles of the Droid os, but its getting there. Not everyone is flocking to the Droids like sheep.
I saw a poster at my local Verizon store promoting a free netbook with BlackBerry Storm2 purchase. I think that will make it worth getting.

If i have a family plan already can i add 2 storm 2’s to it, pay the 179 for the one, then cancel both lines and pay the ETF’s on both – effectively giving me 2 phones to flip?
