Verizon LG Chocolate Touch coming in the next two weeks?

2.2

We were just hit up by a new Verizon connect and it looks like the LG Chocolate Touch is on the horizon. We’re told that retail stores should be receiving stock within the next two weeks, which makes sense since it was featured in Verizon’s Holiday Lineup list. In case you missed the details, the Chocolate Touch will pack a 3.2 megapixel camera, EV-DO Rev. 0 (they couldn’t get with the times and get Rev. A?), Visual Voicemail and VZ Navigator. We’re not sure how we feel about the design, especially with LG offerings like the BL20 and BL40, you’d think this fresh new touch screen wouldn’t look like it was designed in the late 90s. It also looks like it’s packing the same tired OS which will look even more dead once Droid/s hit the scene, but with the right pricing we think this could do well with those who aren’t looking for full-featured smartphones. Hit the jump for a shot of the back.

IT is possible that they left out rev A so that they wont charge for that stupid 9.99 web plan that premium feature phones must pay for…

Meh.. nothing special, is it just me who is getting frustrated with the speed (or maybe hold back) of technology. Innovation is a rarity now-days.

for innovation you will have to look at apple/google. lg, sony, microsoft, and everyone else are trying to play it safe and only indulge into a new idea when it has proven to be successful.

I beg to differ, Apple&Google are creating nice products but the iPhone has barely changed since day one. Android is cool but there is so much technology kept to the high end that really doesn’t need to be. Like 5MP camera, good processors, OMLED screens, attractive and user oriented GUIs and form factors. /rant

Aside from Nokias, cell phone cameras are terrible. 5MP doesn’t mean shit. Why does everyone think bigger MP numbers = better quality?

It’s very true but I don’t just mean MP but a decent lens, how hard can it be?

            brum,

exactly… I remember back a couple years ago when a point and shoot camera with 3.2 MP could take decent pics. It’s seems like phones just can’t quite get there, which is dissappointing.. I’m still waiting for that one device that can get it all right.

Front facing camera, dual-led flash, flash video, soft and hardware combo, FM transmitter receiver. Not even the high end phones can have it all…

For the record I understand this phone isn’t the best example.

You’ll can say it sucks but it’s a dumbphone, not exactly meant to be groundbreaking. I don’t care for the design though, looks a little weird.

    @ dave

I’m pretty sure for that plan the phone also has to have a QWERTY keyboard.

Other than that, this phone seems pointless…
Dare, Versa and enV Touch seem to cover it all from LG

Hmm, custom OS’s are so 90’s. LG needs to jump on the Android bandwagon. I imagine that soon most all phones will be smartphones. Sure, there’s still people that want all texting and no real data, but somehow I doubt that trend will last long. We live in a data-hungry society. Within a few years, I think choices will be narrowed down to plain dumbphones that are just a phone and not much else (those will always be in some level of demand) and smartphones with full data. We’re already seeing the trend advance with the Samsung Rogue on Verizon. Though it’s still Symbian based, it’s about as close to a smartphone as you can be without actually being one.

Back on the topic at hand, what’s with the name anyway? Although I think Chocolate is one of the dumbest names to use for a series of cell phones, at least the original Chocolates were brown. This one isn’t even the right color. The name is now meaningless, and they’re capitalizing on pure name recognition at this point. Lame. But hey, that’s just my opinion.

People, stop getting upset! IT’S A DUMBPHONE! It’s not suppose to have WiFi, the best cam ever, etc. etc. etc. It’s not a smartphone. A lot of people DON’T want a smartphone.

I saw this phone today auctually. The screen is very nice and bright. Data is fast, and the screen is like the enV touch. Pictures look like they do on the enV touch. Thats all this is really except no real QWERTY. The music player on this phone is great tho.

I agree. The problem with getting a smart phone for most people is that you have to pay for the damn $30/month data plan with it.

My sister wants a new phone and possibly a smart phone but she wont get one because the data plan is too expensive. Even the one feature phone she likes (the samsung Rogue) now requires a data plan. Its kinda crazy how they are making you pay for data with any of the nicer phones. If you dont like it, you gotta buy a crappy phone.

Tell her to look at the Verizon Wireless Touch on the web site. It’s like 9.99 on a two year. It does not require a data plan. She can choose the pay per kb option, but when she gets it she can call and have them block data.

        Thumb up Thumb down +1

        • ramifications says:

The problem with that is its a very old phone on an old platform. Something like the Droid Eris is more like it. Is that Touch the only smart phone that doesn’t require the plan?
