Android 2.0 SDK gets official
Looks like Google wanted to break some Android 2.0 news of their own — as of today, the Android development community will have access to the 2.0 API’s in the Android SDK. Several new tools including an improved Bluetooth API that allows for peer-to-peer connections and a new account manager API that will allow synchronization with various contact resources have been added. A text and video walk through of the highlights have been posted on the developer site and we’ve embeded it after the break. Now all we need are a few more Android 2.0 handsets…

The good thing about Android SDK is that it supports a wide array of OS, including Mac. Perhaps some Mac developers would be jumping to Android. This serve as an alternative outlet for mobile API creators.

Does anyone know if this update is going to be for all Android phones? I remember reading that the ROM of the G1 was going to be too small for the update to 2.0 Thanks!
Thank goodness I am rooted. I need a ROM for 2.0 to get out expeditiously!
Does anyone know if this will finally fix the issues with non-Gmail or exchange emails? Simply put, will 2.0 allow full use of Yahoo mail? I like the myTouch but it’s kind of silly that a phone dictates what email I should use. I’m not asking for full push support, but at least allow native folder and read/delete sync.
Thanks for the insight!
The SDK announcement has a Program Highlights page in it that has Exchange Support mentioned… so….. I believe so?

If it only didnt have a stupid slide out keyboard. It looks horrible when the keyboard is extended.
No multi touch huh? Damn
What do you need multi touch for aside from pinching and zooming in Google Maps or with pictures?
Those two things and web browsing are the only things you really need it for, but I just think it’s a cool feature. But it is simply icing on the cake, so to speak. I’m pretty much sold on the droid.
A-greed. I do love multi-touching on my friends iphone, but it isn’t a necessary add on like a physical keyboard is!
Multi touch is supported at the framework level. It just need support in the app.
BGR, what are the chances the Droid will feature multi touch at release?
Obviously less important than all the new feutures but what is the multimedia support in Android2. So what video and audio codecs are supported out of the box and what is th eplayback like.
will this update be available on the mytouch 3g???
See http://developer.android.com It says there is multi-touch support.
you can see a demo of android 2.0 (on the motorola driod emulator) at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltGzyh_IQkk&feature=youtube_gdata
Quote from Android website:
“MotionEvent can now report simultaneous-touch information for devices that support it. Up to three pointers can be tracked simultaneously”
That should mean it is capable of adding multi-touch to it
THE DROIDDOES.COM COUNTDOWN ENDED LAST NIGHT AT MIDNIGHT SO DOES THAT MEAN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER STARTING TODAY?
I can’t wait! Really hope android 2.0 will support my apple bluetooth keyboard…
