Palm Pixi landing on Sprint November 15th for $99.99
On the same morning that Verizon announced the availability of Wi-Fi packing BlackBerry Storm2, Sprint has come out and announced that the Wi-Fi lacking Palm Pixi will go on sale in just under three weeks time. Available from November 15th and onwards in stores, online, over the phone and through retailers like Best Buy, RadioShack and select Wal-Marts, the Palm Pixi will set early adopters back $99.99 on contract after factoring in $150 worth of instant and mail-in rebates. If you ask us, it’s a lot of money to ask for what it offers considering the iPhone 3G can be for the same price (oh, boo and hiss all you like) and the flaghship Pre is only $50 more. And did we mention no Wi-Fi?

Palm billed the Pre as a direct competitor to the iPhone and therefore comparisons to what Apple has to offer are fair and warranted.
This may be true, but for someone that is already on Sprint, this phone is an excellent option, whereas getting an iPhone would require switching networks resulting in a higher price over the course of two years.
And add “Verizon Lover” to that too…what a hater. And I had the Pre and the keyboard was great! Had to test out the Hero for now though.
A lot of nice phones coming out. Not sure if I want to keep my iPhone or go back to blackberry or wm. Or give palm a try. decisions decisions!
I know that there will be new WebOS devices such as the Pixi, but I’m wondering if this going to be a replacement for the Centro. The Centro is getting a little long in the tooth.

$99.99 is a good price point, especially going into the holiday season.
This new site layout looks like ass. Font is too small, and there is tons of unused space on the borders of the page. It’s also still slow as balls to load.
The Pixi’s a nice phone though. Just switched from an iphone 3g to a Pre. LOVING the Pre, and that chea ass Sprint plan!

The Palm Centro was the company’s best selling phone in its history. Was anyone on BGR, Engadget, etc. excited about that phone’s release? Nope, probably not.
We tech nerds are a small percentage of the people that purchase phones. This phone will sell like hot cakes at $99.

It’s not the Pre’s fault that the battery life hasn’t been all that top notch. It’s not the hardware, it’s the OS. Unfortunately webOS hasn’t utilized the entire system yet, but it will. From my experience, any device that’s new never has great battery life until updates come.. and palm has been providing those in a timely manner.
i have the treo pro and hate the keyboard. im either upgrading to hero or moment as im absolutely sick of typos and typing on a tiny keyboard.
it’s a shame that people look at the price of a phone first before looking at the price of a 2 year contract.
Two things:
Maybe it’s just me, but the Pixi looks like what you’d get if you gave a blackberry a touch screen and a prettier OS. I can see a number of people wanting something like this something that has the touch-screen experience without losing the keyboard in a candy bar form. (This, of course, presumes that they keyboard, unlike that of the Pre, is actually usable.)
Second, although the higher-end product is only $50 more (or the same price through Amazon), I can see a lot people simply not wanting a slider, especially considering a lot of the complaints (my own included) that the Pre feels cheap and prone to breaking.
While I’m not crazy about the lack of WiFi, the fact is that the Pixi could hit the sweet spot with more people than folks here seem to expect. I expect the $99 price to be lowered for anyone going to a store and begging hard enough. $99 is OK, especially for Christmas, but $79 might be a better fit.

I like the phone and would consider buying it, but the name is too feminine therefore would never buy it.
This phone is one of the best designs Palm has ever did. Looking forward for it to hit Europe. Don’t care about the name thing!
Is Sprint going to discriminate once again against SERO users?
Is it just me or is the space between the top of the keyboard and the bottom of the screen unnecessarily HUGE? Otherwise, this phone looks great. This gap is about as stupid as that damn horizontal bar that the blackberry tour has between its trackball and the screen (all that thing does is gather dust and pocket lint).
The reason for the gap is that’s the “gesture” area – it does look a little silly if you don’t know what it’s for. It’s actually pretty awesome with what you can do with it.

I am most definitely looking forward to this phone. It’s a cheap smartphone and its the one for me. I could really care less about the name and people that wouldn’t buy it for the name are just plain dumb. I love the webOS and this keyboard is way better than the pre’s.
Of course bgr would talk trash they are verizon butt buddies.
