AT&T announces Q3 results, iPhone/data gains drive profits

new-att-logo2

Yesterday AT&T announced its third-quarter earnings, and while year-over-year revenue was down (along with the rest of the market) Ma’ Bell managed to beat analysts $0.50 earnings per share prediction by $0.04.  Not bad, AT&T. The earnings were largely due to AT&T’s wireless division — 2 million new lines of service and 4.3 million post-paid wireless activations (3.2 million of which were iPhones) — produced a 33.6% percent increase in wireless data revenues bringing this quarter’s total to $3.6 billion. Our fleet of iPhones can probably account for a couple million of that 3.6 number. We’re joking, relax. Hit the press release for all the dirty details.

    So this is AT&T as a whole? Is there any way we can find out how much AT&T Mobility made as a separate entity?

    @kyyle2334,
    The article states what ATT mobility did. 2 million adds, 4.3 million activations.

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

    what i couldn’t believe after i saw this report online is how bad Sprint/Nextel is doing. They are in prime for a buyout from another company.

    AT&T stock price is about $25 a share
    Verizon stock price is around $29 a share
    Sprint/Nexetl stock price is at a rock bottom $3.25 cents

    sprint is doing so bad financially its crazy compared to at&t/verizon. when sprint bought nextel in 2004 they had 40million people while at&t/verizon had 46/42 million respectively in 2009 sprint has 49million while at&t/verizon double their customer base to 81/87 million.

    Anyone else notice that 75% of all 2009Q3 AT&T activations were for iPhones?!! The press release also states that of those iPhone activations, 40% of those customers were new to AT&T! These staggering percentage figures shows the iPhone’s incredible mass appeal. Will Verizon’s Droid come close to this? Unlikely.

    AT&T placed all their eggs in one basket and alienated all the other handset manufacturer. Wait till Apple screws over AT&T… Apple always screws over their business partners.

    haha yeah, sad when ATT’s Iphone contract runs out with apple, like they said, they have alienated all the manufacturers just so they dont compete with the Iphone.
