Comcast to enter 3G/4G cellular data market
Stateside ISP Comcast is ready to jump on the 3G/4G wireless data bandwagon — and how. The Comcast site is boasting 4G services for residents of Bellingham, WA, Portland, OR, and Atlanta, GA, — with more to come — and 3G coverage throughout most of the continental US. Comcast doesn’t make note of what cell provider(s) they’ve sold their soul to, but the coverage map is pretty impressive and it’s most likely using Sprint’s network. Combine that with a $69.99 monthly price tag for high speed cable interwebs for your home (15Mbps) plus unlimited 3G/4G cellular data (3 – 6 Mbps) while on the road, and we think Comcast may have something cooking here. How many of you are paying $69+ just for home internet as it is?

About 4 months back there was a story going around that tmobile and comcast were teaming up.

Dallas used to be Comcast territory, but it’s now under Time Warner. From what people are telling me, it’s a good thing Comcast isn’t available here anymore!

Sorry Jeff, but American cars do suck. there is a reason they are failing….right? There is a reason a 3 year old Taurus is worth 5k when it was 17k new. But I will say they have started to build nicer cars in the last year or so, but still no Camry. No I don’t own a Camry.
Comcast works great where I live, and the service has been very reliable. The biggest complain is it costs way to much money. When out introductory rate ends, we will either switch to Qwest dsl, or go with the city wide WIFI. Then we get “high” 3-6mb internet anywhere in the city and at home.

I second that. Their service is bad where I am and it takes them forever to fix anything out here too.

Using Clear here in PDX, this looks like a good deal, but…
Clear’s product is up and down from day to day, I’ve had periods of several days where the service blows big time, and I’m in the middle of one of them right now – the “guy” told me they’ll get the sector backhaul problem fixed in “about a month”. Some days I see 7M DL/.8M UL (typically 1/5 of that) other days – like yesterday – 1.2M DL/.05 UL, and some pages, like CNN’s home page, never finish loading. Great RSSI/CINR numbers don’t mean squat – this is the third time they’ve had backhaul problems with their towers since I signed up.
The only sweet part of this deal is tapping into SPCS’s 3G data – I didn’t see on Comcast’s micro site whether that’s capped.
Oh, and no Mac love – Windows only.
Don, I have Quest, paying $25 month locked in. Why would I want to pay Comcast $69? I have had Comcast before and they get you started and start raising you prices after the first year. Not good enough deal.
Well of course it HAS to be Sprint/Clearwire, there IS NO OTHER 4G publicly available.
Disclosure says the wireless 3G is limited to 5GB a month, .10 overage.
I pay $58/mo. for 15Mb/2Mb with Road Runner, and T-Mobile gives me a 3G for $20/mo. that I can use on my laptop with my Android phone.

they were supposed to team up with Sprint last year or even two years ago for cell service. this was according to my cable guy. i think comcast is fine roger a.
it is for sure using Sprint’s 3G network nation wide. 4G is on the Clear network and the 3G is “unlimted” with a 5GB cap.

No, you are wrong. Buick has ranked tops in JD Powers for the past couple of years, with Cadillac and Lincoln not too far behind. Detroit failed because of poor management and bloated union benefits. That said, Comcast does deliver provide fast broadband options. It is just their customer service and pricing that tarnish their image.
