T-Mobile to employees: don’t you dare open this until October 25th

tmo-dark

What not to do if you are a large company and have a secret project — ship a box full of relevant collateral to a retail locale with a stern looking label that reads “Don’t Open Until 10/25″. A new connect has come through with some pricing details on T-Mo’s Project Dark, and as usual, we’ve ripped it apart and deciphered it. Pics and pricing after the bounce.

Thanks, justfinethanku!

You cant compare these prices to sprints because you’re getting more with sprint than you do with t-mobile. I have both services (TOUR & Iphone)and sprints plans, and 3g is waaaaaayyy better.
    Sprint

    ~unltd mobile to any mobile
~ everything is unltd (txt, mms, data, gps)
it feels good to not have to worry about any xtra charges for my plans no matter what cell i have (smart phone, blackberry, android)

better pricing than Verizon, unfortunately you might not get service in wide stretches of open land in Montana or Wyoming like you would on Verizon and that seems be a huge deal breaker to all of you Starbucks drinking New York hipsters.

BGR really should have been clear on what stuff costs. Totally fucking it up with people that can’t read..

Data with a regular phone is only $10. So take talk or talk+text and add $10 for unlimited web.

The family plans are by far the best value WITHOUT a contract.

The grouped Text+Talk+Data pricing is including smartphone data.

Cricket, MetroPOS(way worse than Cricket), Boost all have craptastic nationwide coverage. Worse than T-Mobile. It’s a shocker, but it’s true.

Back when the T-Mobile Touch Pro2 launch pricing was being rumored, discussed and speculated about, there was an official chart that surfaced the day before launch that showed the price on a two year contract would be $279 (appx). Then another chart surfaced showing the price at $350. Turns out the $279 chart was wrong (and a fake?)

So maybe this is a fake? Or disinformation by T-Mo?

I called a CSR a couple days ago and when I asked about lower priced plans and said I might have to switch carriers, he specifically said:

    – Wait until next month, we will be coming out with plans that will make the news. You will be paying way less than what you are now (he could see on his screen that for TWO LINES I was paying $90 for unlimited talk, $50 for unlimited data and 400 text messages each. So that’s $140.

    – T-Mo has 20 plans now, we will be going to 6 plans, three individual, three family.

    – We will be going to unlimited pricing only, with some 200 minute plans for those who need an additional line for light users.

He said all this with the proviso that they “don’t tell us much.”

I wrote all this down so I would not forget it.

These leaked plans are a 180 from what he said and also are a 180 on what has been discussed.

Most important, these are not game changing plans. And no way the media would pick up on this.

So either the rumors and gossip was out of hand (started by BGR’s “connect” who said all that he said) or this is a spat of disinformation fed to BGR and others to respond to all the information (most likely accurate) floating around.

I could see that being T-Mo’s plan. When in war disinformation is a common tactic, we used it in WW II to fool the Nazis where the invasion would be.

Seems it would take little effort to leak some phony pricing charts, to be used in the event T-Mo became concerned that the leaks were becoming too accurate.

It’s what I would do if I had some game changing plans up my sleeve. And in fact it would be fun to launch that torpedo and watch the Net react.

So yeah, if these plans and prices are real, for non-loyalty folk they are OK. For us enjoying loyalty pricing, they are a “so what.”

But we loyalists should not be upset since I never understood PD to include a little something for us. After all, we are lifers and not going anywhere.

I still wonder, however, if these are the prices, how the CSR who talked to me was so far off. I can’t imagine they were told to lie to any loyalist who calls asking about plan alternatives.

    2 Lines @ $80 EA = $160 (2 Indv UN Lines w/ all options, no contract)

    2 Lines @ $180 = $90 EA (2 Family UN Lines w/all option, 2 year contract)

You pay $480 more for the contract, you would be better off buying an un sub phone and going no contract.

How is this a deal when Flex gets better rates than contract customers?

    Scam.

Vast majority of AT&T,Sprint trolls and whiners here are complaining about the plans T-Mobile never discussed or disclosed.

At the end of the day, T-Mobile plans will be cheaper than anyone. If you see something otherwise enlighten us.Questions seems to be the amount of money you save with new plans. It might be as low as $10/month ( $240/Year).

Now if you are one of those people who likes to watch Sprint TV or like iPhone then these are not your plan or carrier. But a large chunk of people out there would love to have $50 unlimited talk without any contract. That simply undercuts Sprint’s $70 talk unlimited plan by $20 without the 2 year plan.Only God knows how is that a bad deal.

Did you notice I did not mention Verizon in the equation. Because Verizon has great network and good service. T-Mobile can not compete with them . At this time neither can AT&T. Sprint is in a different league with 1 million customers departing every quarter and not to mention billions of dollars of loss they are incurring.

You can already get unlimited talk, text, basic web, and even 411 with TracFone’s Straight Talk on Verizon’s Network and the coverage is much better than T-Mobile. Yes, the handsets aren’t exactly state of the art but you can get all this for 45.00 per month. At that price, why would you choose T-Mobile?

No, the correct comparison is the $60 contract/subsidized phone price. The difference is $10.

As has been mentioned ad infinitum, the talk-only customer you imagine will probably choose StraightTalk on Verizon’s network for $5/mo less, and get free texting to boot.

I also forgot the plans are only $10 within themselves UNLESS you get a smartphone. Then it’s an extra $20 a month on a contract. Makes sense.

    Michael,

I already told you last week when you were posting on tmonews that T-Mobile would never release a $50 unlimited everything that included smartphone data.

The plan prices that have been leaked show that I was correct. T-Mobile is not bright enough to leak misleading information. If you still don’t believe, Sunday will end all doubt.

PS: Did you see Apple’s earnings announcement? They sold a RECORD 7.4 million iphones in the last quarter. Iphone is now 22% of the U.S. smartphone market and only sold on one carrier. Not quite the saturation you claimed, huh? T-Mobile would have been wise to have added that phone to their line-up for Project Dark.

Well I hope BGR never ever takes another call nor reads an e-mail from the original “new connect” who fed BGR a load of BS.

BGR disclaimers aside, the fact remains BGR blew it on this one and has hurt its previous solid reputation as a source for “inside” or newsworthy information.

This is because when BGR posts rumors from what it calls “connects” (new or not) it’s assumed that before publishing the leaks BGR has determined the informant and his information credible.

The fact of the matter is that BGR leaks and “reports” are significant. Posting leaked information, such as what was originally posted about Project Dark, gives the connect instant credibility and morphs rumors into something more significant than troll bullsheet.

Guess this is a round about way that not only am I disappointed at T-Mo if these prices are accurate, but I am also disappointed at BGR for posting what it advanced as credible leaks.

Yes, BGR can disclaim all it wants, labeling the original leaks unconfirmed and whatever, but with access to the leaker comes responsibility. That includes not publishing every piece of bullsheet that flows through BGR’s e-mail in-box.

I assume that BGR does some sort of verification process on leaks. So it’s significant that out of the thousands of bullsheet-spewing e-mails that BGR included this connect’s leak as part of a worldwide story.

So your bad BGR, on this one.

For those of you who don’t have the original leak, below the line is what BGR published.

Compare that with this story revealing Project Dark details. (Again, even though BGR says the below information is “unsubstantiated,” BGR still has an obligation to not publish all bullsheet that “comes its way.”

As said above, the act of BGR publishing any leak automatically gives a leak and leaker credibility, under the assumption that BGR vets the leaker to determine what is worthy of worldwide publication. In other words, we assume because BGR says it, the info is somewhat accurate and not total BS like this original leak apparently was (assuming the accuracy of this leak).

BGR said it published the information because “we owe it to our readers.” That’s a cheap shot putting all this on readers’ backs. (See above.) We are at BGR’s mercy to check things out and to publish information that has a modicum of believability and accuracy.

This is one reader who does not believe that BGR owes it to me to publish total bullsheet or stories with at least a hint of accuracy on the important parts.

(Sidenote: I remain optimistic that today’s story is the bullsheet leak (disinformation?) and that the below leak is the accurate version as to what’s going on.)

[A] new T-Mobile connect came out of nowhere and sent us in quite a lot of new information…

Project Dark is a pretty big thing for T-Mobile.

Not only will employees be wearing new threads consisting of a black top and grey pants while they sell the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and two Nokia Nseries devices (the N900 and something else), but they’ll also be pushing something pretty amazing —

[A] $50 all you can eat plan that includes voice, SMS, MMS and data. Apparently this plan will be called ‘Everything Unlimited’ and is meant to represent T-Mobile’s new strategy which will essentially see it try and poach subs from various low-cost carriers.

We’ve also been told that T-Mobile will be adopting a very Walmart slogan of “More for Less.”

Okay, we’ve done our part, now what do you people think about this?

I agree, for those who want talk, text and light web surfing, you can get straight talk for $45 and now they have the Samsung Messanger for $99. And its No contract, run on VZW’s network. The Talk only customers T-Mobile was hoping to get or would like to get will not happen with prices like this.

For the smartphone lovers, VZW and the iPhone still dominate the market. I am not an iPhone owner, but on AT&T. Not loyal to AT&T and would switch to any carrier, if it makes sense to me and my fiance. These plans are good, nothing to jump for joy about. Maybe the No Contract is more appealing to some but not to me.
